Exactly! It's all about communicating those things proactively, which takes time and effort. If a connection isn't "worth" checking in and having a conversation so that everyone can be on the same page, maybe it's enough to remain friends or just call it what it is. They still have plenty of time.

Agreed! These folks were 19 - 21 and didn't seem to have much hope for connections in the future. >.< It's like, you have so much time to figure out who you are and what you want! It is not unreasonable to think that there's a fair chance that you'll find who and what you're looking for.

Cripes! 🙃 That dejected class convo has me feeling genuinely down. (Love, jokes, pet pics welcome!) That's the last time I'll be an open q&a speaker for such a class. (In retrospect, probably a bad idea.) The wildly misinformed opinions and open vitriol toward emotional connection were unnerving.

Class: over Brain: 🍳 1. It's possible for people in ill-defined situations to act in good faith and end up catching feelings. Being human is complicated. 2. Assumption can be dangerous. Especially about intent. 3. One can be both demi *and* poly. 4. The education system downright terrifies me.

There's a BIG part of me that wants to shake some folks by the shoulders and ask "Who hurt you and why do you struggle to receive basic kindness or joy without questioning it? Do you think that every interaction is transactional? Some people find intrinsic reward in showing others kindness."
