Still a fair bit of tidying up to do. Dragon is very true to the original box art, but I changed the colours on Prince Imrik, I couldn't bring myself to paint green and red. Also, quite pleased with the green stuff pennants and freehand. Nice upgrade to the paper banners that come with the kit.

What are some game design pros and cons of various systems, like AD&D and Shadowdark etc.? I really like the idea of spending gold between adventures to mimic the swords and sandals style of Conan being chronically broke and needing to go adventuring, especially for an episodic campaign!

@masteringdnd.bsky.social Question for the pod! As someone who learnt D&D with the old BECMI rules, but mainly played 3rd and 5th, I've longed to add gold pieces as experience to 5th, somehow. How would you do it?

people are ‘painting’ minis with ai now… it’s depressing & they answer comments like it’s some kinda ‘skill’. they used to actually paint but now just churn this out for likes? many people won’t realise & will just assume that the person painted it, cos why wouldn’t you? be careful out there 💕

Another Gloranthan Amazon, a Star Lady and follower of Yelorna. She‘s one of my favourites, one of those “I’ll tackle you when I’ve a better painter”. Screw that, paint now! She’s a Bronze Age mini, available in the UK/EU from @fenrisgames.com

Miniature of an Amazon, clad in Greek style armour with a sword and shield in hand and a bow on her back. She’s mostly in blue/grey with a little pale blue and yellow.

Side view showing the shield device, a star surrounded by a laurel wreath, pale grey on a field on dark grey.

Three amazons. The two flanking her have shield and spear in an aggressive charging pose. The one on the right has an embossed shield, the left has a large star emblem. All in various grey/blue/pale yellow.

I mean, Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky are very critical of (Tsarist) Russia. They are products of the suffering and the awfulness of Russkii mir. Vatniks that hold them up as exemplars of the supposed superiority of Russian culture clearly haven't understood their writings.

I didn't enter the Olden Demon painting contest in the end. The process of painting an entry for a competition was quite eye-opening. Ultimately a combination of poor choice of miniature, lack of time, dated camera setup, and my worsening eyesight meant it wasn't to be. Here's where I ended up:

I'm planning a Battlefleet Gothic force, and reading the description for the Lunar-class cruiser reminds me of peak Warhammer. The description of how a "primitive" people's beliefs were exploited to mine the resources for a new Imperial starship is so bleak, it's the writing of a genius.

"The Lunar class cruiser forms the mainstay of Battlefleet Obscuras with over six ships serving throughout segmentu and more than twenty ships fighting in the Gothic war. The uncomplicated design of this class ensures its enduring utility, enabling vessels to be built at hive and industrial worlds normally unable to muster the expertise to construct a capital ship. Perhaps the most remarkable example of this is the Lord Daros, constructed at the feral world of Unloth. The primitive tribesmen dwelling there were influenced to mine and smelt metals which were then presented for 'sacrifice' at sky temples established by the Planetary Lord. The raw materials were then lifted into orbit at each vernal equinox. After a period of eleven years the tribes were rewarded for their effort with the sight of a bright new star moving across the heavens as the Lord Daros boosted out-system to join Battlefleet Obscuras."

A photo of the two page spread this description is taken from, showing two ships, their profiles, and the flavour text.

The front cover of the Battlefleet Gothic rulebook. It shows a close up of an enormous stylised Imperial eagle, perhaps carved from stone or wrought from metal. The front cover is blue-grey.

Not sure whom to credit for this masterful work, but the Games Design and Development team were Andy Chambers, Gav Thorpe, and Jervis Johnson.

Terminator Tuesday! Post something Chonky! (Bonus points for heresy!) 👇

A beautifully painted squad of Emperor’s Children Terminator Space Marines from the Warhammer 30K Horus Heresy miniature range, skillfully completed by commission miniature painter Andy TheBrushSmith. These elite warriors are depicted in rich, vibrant purple power armor with intricate gold trim, capturing the luxurious and prideful aesthetic of the Emperor’s Children Legion. The central figure is a highly detailed character model, featuring ornate decorations, a flowing tabard, and a glowing green jewel, suggesting a commander or praetor. Each model is equipped with classic Cataphractii pattern armor and a mix of lightning claws, power fists, and combi-weapons. The bases are realistically textured with dirt, tufts of yellow flowers, and static grass, adding depth and realism. Ideal for Warhammer 30K collectors and hobbyists seeking inspiration for painting Emperor’s Children miniatures.

My second game with the Hochland army was against a magnificently painted Orcs and Goblins army. A hard fought contest but a clear defeat for my Empire. Another amazing game with lots of rank-and-flank action - the War Wagon is deadly on the charge! #Nerdlings #OldWorld #WarhammerCommunity

A wargames board laid out rady for battle - flat green pastures, with clumps of trees, a burned out building and some fields. Two armies are laid out for battle, Orcs along the left side and Empire on the right.

The War Wagon, a large fighting chariot, smashes into the flank of a large regiment of Orc spearmen, doing terrible damage.

A whirling melee of combat, several units all at odd angles, driven apart by the fighting. The Empire have two depleted units of Handgunners in action against Orc warriors, while the Baron and his Greatsword bodyguard fight a regiment of Black Orcs led by a Big Boss.

The Warboss on Wyvern charges into the flank of an unfortunate militia detachment.
