It's pretty fun coming up with some interesting mini dioramas for the base of my mega gargant.
An unpainted WIP model of a medieval peasant sat on an outhouse toilet. The outhouse has been smashed around him leaving him understandably a little confused and rather perturbed. The model outhouse and peasant in place on the base of a huge giant model striding past in the background. The giant has just knocked the top of the outhouse leaving the fortunate peasant behind.

There's nothing as satisfying as painting 15mm early war Germans, having a fluke run of good luck, and getting that sergeant's epaulette spot on.

9th Platoon, 3rd Squad complete and ready to join the ranks under Watchmaster Hallerton. I painted this squad in two batches of five and it worked well - didn't burn out on them and finished just in advance of my end of September deadline.

I'm on a bit of a roll with these Solar Auxilia so I painted the Special Weapons Squad as well. If I can keep them alive it'll give me some decent anti-Terminator punch which the army really lacks. I'd love an Aurox to put them in but just found out they're OOP!

The Phesian Bombardiers served with distinction throughout the later Heresy. Though famous for their massed artillery batteries, mechanised cohorts like this drawn from the 15th Grand Battery, attached to Bexar Troop, 145 Division, were notable for their skill and professionalism.

Some real blasts from the pasts today. Backing up all my photos onto a hard drive and I ranked them by date - these are the oldest, the conversions go back twenty years and are all linked to what became the Palladian Guard, my homebrew PDF regiment which now lives on in new plastics.

I've built my Giant - I may have wandered off the instructions slightly as I went along, but happy with the end result! Just needs some gap filling and tidying up, then he's ready to get stuck into a Nuln artillery train.

Popped into the Harrogate Warhammer store and had a nice chat to Dieter. Decided that it's time for something new! Looking forward to converting these, I like the idea of them drinking ale from barrels and being on a big bender.

Last night the World Eaters and Solar Auxilia took on the zombie marines of the Myriad in a co-op Heresy game. We fell behind early on as the machine consciousness flooded the objectives with Line units, but the World Eaters barged them off with fire support from the Auxilia, leading to a 12-7 win.

In last night's Inquisimunda game, my team of contractors, scientists, and misfits followed the clues to an agri depot on Helena's surface. After sniffing around the bars and markets, we discovered one of the silos being used to house a Genestealer, and duly went in and shot the place up.
A grass board with a mix of light industrial buildings and some fields and trees. The train we arrived on (which was the scene of a train-top fight in the last game) arrived in the yard in the top right of the picture.First we stopped off for a bite to eat at this delightful establishment. The proprietor was a bit annoyed and, not wanting to start a fight (yet) we left. I later discovered that a drunk who'd spilled a beer on me had in fact splashed me with Genestealer kill-marking pheromones."Groxhide" Brannix has struck up an unlikely friendship with a Kroot Mercenary. After a lengthy chat we realise we're both here on the same mission, and are both likely to be double crossed by our shared employer. When Groxhide explains to the rest of the gang, they're a bit reluctant to openly pair up with a xenos, but we at least agree not to tread on each other's toes and now have a better understanding of what's going on After all that talking we do find a Genestealer, chained onto this elevator for the Cult to use as a sort of guard dog. Things look a bit ropey for a second, but "Buzzsaw" Corrin steps forward with his heavy stubber and with an incredible set of dice including three crits, cuts it down in one burst.

After finishing the Brits from the Blitzkrieg box I'm working on some OPFOR to go up against them. These are two StuG III self propelled guns - a nice straightforward paint job that gets them on the table quickly.

The 19th Stormtrooper Battalion have had a half-platoon attached to the Steel Legion 235th for a few weeks now, but have already completed several successful and high profile missions. The troopers of the 235th are not too keen on these Glory Boys swooping in and stealing all the fame and glory.

Not done any games designing in about a decade. But after looking into several WW2 rulesets I decided to give it a try again. Trying to build something that revolves around the target's stance and what it's doing (rather than the firer's skill or experience) to determine how effective fire is.
A very simple 15mm WW2 board set up. There are some British and unpainted Germans on the board, fighting around a rural crossroads. There's a cup of tea balanced on the board, a notepad and pen, various counters and experimental markers. The laptop is open and draft rules are being edited.

We played Inquisimunda last night, the investigation into the Cultist activity on Helena's World continued. Hanging around the freight yards we spotted a suspicious train - rather than fight our way on board, I snuck Skully the Servo Skull on board to report on where it was going... (1/2)
A 40K train sits in a freight yard. There are containers and crates everywhere, and slightly damaged buildings. Oil drums and boxes are scattered around and some hive scum are moving about. In front of the platform, a crowd of hangers on and general ne'er-do-wells are milling about in a makeshift market. The train itself is guarded by Genestealer Cultists......so rather than fighting my way on the train I sent Skully the Servo Skull to sneak onto the train and transmit the location to my team.

First few test bases done for my Dunkirk campaign. Had a lot of fun with these and feel like my painting is a lot better than it was ten years ago when I last did a large amount of 15mm. Tricky to photograph though!

Yesterday we tested out all the Amon Hen terrain and models. It was great to get all this stuff on the table after weeks of prep. It was a draw in the end, Merry and Pippin were captured, but Sam and Frodo didn't make it to the boats. Boromir survived, but Legolas was slain.

Working on the Dunkirk box again - 15mm is really fun. Conversion is a bit more fiddly but I had to have a go - this is a pair of stretcher bearers. I made the stretcher out of two lengths of plastic rod, with some loo roll very delicately rolled around the middle.
Two converted unarmed British infantrymen, one has a rolled up stretcher under his arm.

First few test BEF painted up. I may come to regret committing to painting Green Howards shoulder titles and the divisional flash, to say nothing of those fiddly stripes. But I'm very pleased with how it looks.

Time for a handbrake turn into something completely different. Picked the Dunkirk box up on a whim, and dug out the Battlegroup rules. I'm going to model the Brits as some of the Green Howards fighting in the runup to Dunkirk. Been a long time since I've painted any 15mm stuff.

Fought an excellent game of Old World yesterday, again the Dwarves proved indomitable and my Tomb Kings army just bounced off! There were some great scraps and mighty challenges, but in the end the only unit I managed to kill was the Dwarf King in a duel with my Tomb King! Oh well, next time...

Who doesn't love incessant pettifogging points tweaks, messing with your carefully-mapped forces? At least down is marginally less annoying than up. By dropping the Krieg squads 5pts that means I now have to find 300pts worth of stuff to keep my army at the same level.

Got another hobby to add to Warhammer - Train Simulator Classic. I've started unwinding after work every day by running a quiet early morning goods train down from Bishop to Wearhead in the early 20th century.
A green tank engine (Wordsley NER Class A 871) stops at a small rural station in the Wear Valley, west of Durham. The scene is peaceful and idyllic.A first person view of the cab, and the view has been adjusted to show me leaning out and watching the signals ahead. On the desk is a watch (set to game time), my paperwork, and a copy of the LNER Rulebook (couldn't find an NER one).A close up of the cab. It's a small, cosy metal box with two quite small windows in the front, out of which can be seen the rural line ahead. The cab has some gauges, with wheels, levers and handles, but it's not that crowded. Very simple controls.A view of my (homemade) route card.
