#Genealogy tip: Hit a "brick wall?” Research sidelines -- siblings, cousins, inlaws, neighbors. Sometimes their records can provide just the information you are looking for.

Do you have tips on how to grow a business? Then here's a speaking opportunity for you! The conference is NOT about #genealogy research, but about business management, so you don't have to be a genealogist to speak at this virtual event. Please share with relevant speakers in your network!

2026 so far: Back to work yesterday after the holidays, but first drove my husband to work because of ❄️ Ended up with a flat tire. (How did I ever manage without a car? 🤔) Today my son's school was closed due to water damage, so I home schooled him. 🤞 for better time for #genealogy tomorrow!

Your plan sounds good. The key is to break up the text. Use subheadings. No long paragraphs. Use text boxes to highlight something and to break up the text. Insert images of signatures, maps, etc., especially for those ancestors where you lack photos. #genealogy

This #postcard was given to my husband’s uncle Edgar in 1924 by his parents when he was about 5 years old. Seems a bit odd .. it’s a bit grown up and when were #NewYears cards a thing for kids!!??? My mum in law was born later that year. #FamilyHistory historicalclues.blogspot.com/2022/01/a-fa...
Ed with his paternal grandad Henry Ed with his mum and dad and grandad. My mum in law was born in 1924. The family emigrated to the US in 1929 but returned after 3 years. His mum missed Liverpool and her huge family!

Perhaps Edgar's parents received a lot of letters and Edgar had expressed that he wanted letters, too. My son said that when he was a small child and then some family members started sending him postcards.

That makes sense. Today some Danish parents start with the gifts in the afternoon on Christmas Day and have dinner early, because children can't stay up late. My son is an owl, so that's never been a problem for us. As long as there's "hygge", anything goes.

The first apartment where my mom lived with her parents and siblings as a baby and small child. An old 3rd-floor apartment in the back building across the yard. They were poor, but my grandma knew how to make ends meet. #FamilyHistory

They do behind the scenes. If you tap "translate" on a post, you will be redirected to Google translate. The translate-from language is the language set for that post. I think Bluesky fetches the default compose language from the browser. It is only an issue on the computer, not the phone app.
010 1
Lene D. Kottal @kottalgenealogy.com · 20/12/2025
I have not actively chosen to have Danish as the default compose language. It is not a keyboard issue, but a Bluesky issue. If you look next to the character count when composing, you can see the compose language. Mine says Danish for new posts. I want that default changed to English.

Lene D. Kottal @kottalgenealogy.com · 20/12/2025
Unless I change the post language, my posts are stored as being in Danish, not English. Thus, they will not show up in someone else's feed, unless they set their settings to include Danish posts.

Lene D. Kottal @kottalgenealogy.com · 20/12/2025
The app language is English, but that doesn't affect the compose language. I can compose in English, but I would like to not have to change the language of the post every time. So the question is: How do I change the default compose language?

Can I set the default language for my own posts to English? If so, how? The three available language settings don't seem to make a difference on this issue. The default is currently Danish, but I rarely post in Danish. #AskBluesky #Help

Where was Ernst Christian Kisky born? Born c. 1738-1751. Tax officer in Nakskov, Denmark, from at least 1794. Died there 1825. Variant spellings: Cesky, Cisky, Kiski, Kitskye, Kiskye - the latter spelling by himself. Any info on the surname outside Denmark is welcome. #Genealogy #FamilyHistory

Thanks for sharing this! I have Finnish ancestors but did not know about this aspect of the civil war. My great-grandmother's brother Otto Anselm Söderlund died in the prison camp Käkisalmi in 1918. Another brother Rudolf Söderlund (voluntarily) immigrated to Canada.
