You’re looking at the radio sky as seen by the Big Ear telescope in August 15, 1977. The bright structure near 18 hours in right ascension is the plane of our Galaxy. Keep going between 19 and 20 hours; the short red line to the left is the Wow! Signal. #AreciboWow #RadioAstronomy

If @science.org is covering it, I guess I should share something here- we have for the first time definitively detected radio emission from a planet around another star! 🔭🧪🎢 What does this mean? Details in thread! (But TL;DR- still not aliens) 🧵 www.sciencenews.org/article/exop...

First radio waves seen from an exoplanet hint at otherworldly auroras
The gas giant Beta Pictoris b, about 63 light-years away, has the mass of 10 Jupiters and a magnetic field thousands of times as strong as Earth’s.

Today on the #arXiv: @kortizceballos.bsky.social, Berger, and @whereisyvette.bsky.social 2026, "Discovery of radio emission from the exoplanet β Pictoris b" - arxiv.org/abs/2609.16720. Beta Pic b shows up quite neatly in L- and S-band radio, with bursts that imply a kilogauss (!) magnetic field.

In the middle of a week of interesting talks on radio transients at Dynamic Radio Sky 2025. Is great to welcome so many people to @sydney.edu.au and @ozgrav.bsky.social for our meeting - and particularly all postdoctoral reseachers and PhD students. The next generation of #RadioAstronomy!
A photo of about 60-70 radio astronomers outside the School of Physics building at the University of Sydney. The building is a heritage sandstone building. It is a sunny day

Congratulations to Dr. Osase Omoruyi on successfully defending her PhD and becoming the second Black woman to earn a PhD in Astrophysics from Harvard University! 🎊✨️🙌🏼🚀🔭🥳 #BlackInAstro
