Sometimes my wife and I like to send each other text messages as though they’re democratic fundraising messages, and I believe she has produced the jewel of the form.
, it's
and I
have some personal news to share with you.
Being a mom is one of the greatest joys of my life, and I feel deeply that we should have salad tonight
This year has been challenging in many ways, and I have immense gratitude for the kindness and support of family, community, and people like you who have continued to stand by me through everything. It means the world, and I wanted you to be among the first to know that squash is in the oven and kale is in the fridge. As many of you are aware, ve been navigating one of the most challenging periods of my day while waiting for dinner.
Facing baseless federal hunger brought on by not eating since lunch, fighting for the working kids of this country, and now caring for a mean toddler and helping him grow up in a world that isn't always easy. But it has also reminded me exactly why I do this work and who I do it for.
I will never stop working to eat dinner. I will never stop fighting for what is right, even when there is also some feta in the fridge. And I will never stop being so very thankful that you are by my side in this important work and that there is tahini in the pantry for dressing
With love and gratitude,
stop to end

Tfw you need to use pliers to pull a zipper and it tears the metal and you get a little well in your finger from the newly torn metal that fills up with blood and makes you frown like ":("

Guy I was watching the movie with was like man what else has Eva Green been in? Well, a lot, she's forty-six now. That can't be right, she's gotta be in her mid twenties in this film oh nooo

There's this point where Bond fucks up in his usual spectacular way so there's a big explosion, and somebody is like wow I gotta take a picture and they pull out a whole ass camera, they probably had to take that film to a CVS to develop it or something

Watched the 20-year re-release of Casino Royale, and obviously it whipped ass, but there's also these scenes where Bond is using a GPS app on an LCD screen brick phone and boy that jarred me, right up there with when Judi Dench casually implies that SPECTRE was involved in 9/11

After years of neglect, finally got Kumara the little dog to the Blessing of the Animals for the 800th anniversary of St. Francis' death. She sat extremely patiently through a reading, a psalm, and a general intercession, so, good work Kumara the little dog.

In spite of being of the correct generation to have grown up while "Peanuts" was still in active publication, it's always a little surreal to be reminded that the most popular comic strip in the English-speaking world for fifty solid years was about an eight-year-old with clinical depression.

It's neat how the homunculus that encodes my dreams has settled on the cinematographic convention of "you are riding in a car that you can see is driving into the ocean" for anxiety nightmares, I love that for me.

"what about the other two mirrors" one of them, Atanah made the charisma save, Ego made the charisma save, Willow failed the charisma save and all her worn metal turned into lead. Other one? An aquarium that tried to pull you in and drown you.

Another mirror, if you look into it, showed us getting killed in various horrible ways by various vile creatures and it would be very upsetting if we did not recognize all these as creatures we murdered 1) with their friend 2) in the first fight 3) before establishing that it wasn't the impostor

We're in a room full of mirrors, and one of the mirrors just looked sort of crappy, basically like jello or something, so Atanah tried to shake it, and the frame fell off, revealing that it was a glory hole for an ochre jelly AND BATTLE WAS JOINED

The yogurt I used this time was nominally Indian yogurt, and much thinner than the previous Greek yogurt. Citrus continues to punch above its weight in this recipe.

I sought out and listened to "Choosing Texas" and I'm no longer sure that I hadn't previously heard it, because I forgot the tune as soon as I heard it. If I hadn't looked up the lyrics, I don't know I'd remember anything of it. A hole in my head exactly the shape for it to drop right out.

Huh. Today in "always look up the etymology because sometimes you're just repeating a myth but sometimes it's weirder and more incredible than you could have possibly imagined" www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/c...
Screenshot of Merriam Webster etymology note for cockamamie:
By the look and sound of it, cockamamie (also spelled "cockamamy") could have something to do with a rooster and the outrageous sound it makes. But in fact, cockamamie is believed to be an altered form of the term decalcomania, which refers to the process, invented in the mid-19th century, of transferring pictures and designs from specially prepared paper to surfaces such as glass or porcelain. (The word referring to the picture or design itself, decal, is a shortening of decalcomania.) The word decalcomania comes from French, with décalcomanie combining the verb décalquer, meaning "to trace" or "to transfer by tracing," and -manie, meaning "-mania." Starting in the 1930s, painted strips of paper with images capable of being transferred to the skin were called decals or—in children's slang—cockamamies. Those familiar with today's temporary tattoos will understand quickly that these were regarded by many as silly novelties, lending the word cockamamie the necessary leeway for application to anything ridiculous.
