🤯 THE "SEX DRIVE" DOESN'T EXIST. 🤯 Yup, that's right! @erikamoen.bsky.social was shocked to learn this and so much more in Dr. @enagoski.bsky.social 's bestselling book on the science of sex, Come As You Are. Read this review from our archive! www.ohjoysextoy.com/come-as-you-... (1/2)
Full transcript at https://www.ohjoysextoy.com/come-as-you-are-2

Erika is a thin white woman in her early 30s, her short hair is shaved on the sides and she is wearing a black hoody and jeans. Eve is a full-figured, pale-skinned woman in middle age with shoulder-length hair that falls into big curls at the bottom. She wears a sleek black dress with an off-kilter pink belt.

Standing next to a copy of the book COME AS YOU ARE that is just a bit taller than she is, Erika says to the reader, "I cannot stop thinking about Come As You Are. This book has absolutely blown my mind and I'm still reeling from it."

"Waaaait a minute," Eve interrupts, pointing accusingly at Erika. "didn't you draw the illustrations for this book? And didn't Nagoski write the introduction to YOUR book? And aren't you guys friends in real life?"

"Guilty as charged." Erika admits, throwing her hands up in surrender.

"You're too biased to review this book!" Concludes Eve.

"I knoooooooooow!" Erika howls, conFull transcript at https://www.ohjoysextoy.com/come-as-you-are-2

A mini-Erika pops up on the stack of books that Dr. Nagoski holds in one hand, while the other hand holds a brain. The books are labeled on their spines, "SCIENCE", "Smart Stuff", "RESEARCH", "Studies".

"Dr. Emily Nagoski uses stone cold research and brain science to debunk tons of popularly accepted misinformation about sexuality and presents alternative explanations for how and why sex stuff happens the way it does."

"That sounds pretty scholarly." Agrees Eve.

"It's more than just intellectual, though!" Erika continues. "She's got real, practical solutions to help people resolve their sexual frustrations and woes."

"Oo, worksheets!" Eve squeals as she takes a peek inside the book Erika holds open.

Narration: At first I tried to just make a mental note every time she introduced a new concept to me or said something thought-provoking.

We see Erika reading the book with a surprised and delighted expression on herFull transcript at https://www.ohjoysextoy.com/come-as-you-are-2

Title: The Dual Control Model of Sexual Desire

A tiny Erika and Eve sit on top of a brain, which in turn sits on top of a classic beam scale. On one side of the scale is a suspended dish labeled "Off" and on the other is one labeled "On" The two quiver a little but are mostly equally weighted against each other. Beneath the Off dish is the text, "Sexual Inhibition System. Notices all the reasons why now is not a good time to be horny." Below the On dish it reads, "Sexual Excitation System. Notices all the sexually relevant information to be turned on."

"Oh, I know how sexual desire works!" Eve says to Erika. "One minute you're not horny, the next minute you are!"

"Not QUITE." Erika explains. "More like, inside your head there's these two little gauges that are always judging whether now is an appropriate time to be horny or not. If your regular desire for sex has dried up and you're looking to restart it, the answerFull transcript at https://www.ohjoysextoy.com/come-as-you-are-2

Narration: But it turns out, there is ALSO *responsive desire*.

A new stick figure rushes to our first stick figure, greeting them with a "Hey baby!". "Our original stick figure replies, "I missed you!"

Narration: Which is when folks only want sex *after* consensually sexy things are already happening, and then their mind and body turns on IN RESPONSE TO that sexy context.

The two stick figures hug and exchange some kisses, until suddenly- ka-BOOM!- the lightning bolt of desire strikes our original stick figure, who joyously realizes, "Oh, wait a minute- *NOW* ME WANT SEX!"

Now Erika and Eve are speeding towards the reader in a round little convertible car as Erika throws her arm in the air (Don't worry, she's the passenger, not the driver), "Finally I was most surprised to learn that SEX IS NOT A DRIVE"

"beep beep!" goes the car.

Erika continues, "We hear about 'The Sex Drive' ALL THE FRIGGIN' TIME. But it's no

Hickory Ground, or Oce Vpofv, is a historic Muscogee (Creek) Nation tribal capital and state-registered archeological site on the National Register of Historic Places located in Wetumpka, Alabama. This culturally and religiously significant site includes a ceremonial ground, council house, plaza, and ancestral burial grounds containing funerary objects.

Justice for Hickory Ground is essential to rectify the injustices committed against the Muscogee (Creek) people and their ancestral lands. The desecration of this site for commercial gain, withour the consent of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation or thr Hickory Ground tribal town, represents a profpund violation of their cultural and spiritual heritage.

Achieving justice for Hickory Ground requires holding those responsible accountable, restoring the site's sanctity, and returning all remains and artifacts to their rightful resting placed. This will reinforce the importance of respecting Indigenous rights and protecting sacred lands from future exploitation.

Authors Against Book Bans (AABB) strongly opposes House Resolution 2616 (The "Stopping Indoctrination and Protecting Kids" Act) and the suppressive effects it could have on school libraries and student education. As a coalition of authors, illustrators, editors, and other book creators, we unequivocally support the availability of diverse stories on library shelves and the freedom for every child to exercise their right to read.
The proposed amendments to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 would withhold ESEA funding from schools that "teach or advance concepts related to gender ideology," as defined in section 2 of Executive Order 14168. This attempt to codify the inaccurate definitions outlined in that EO - which falsely equate gender ideology with gender identity - will have detrimental effects throughout our schools and society.
While the bill claims to be about "protecting kids," this is a smoke screen we've seen before. HR 2616, as written, is an attempt to target and eliminate not just trans and nonbinary books, but any mention of the existence of gender non-conforming people. The proposed amendment narrows the perspectives permitted in school discourse and flouts the long-standing legal precedent that supports constitutionally protected speech in schools.
In his opinion for 1982's Board of Education v. Pico, Justice William J.
Brennan, Jr., wrote:
"In sum, just as access to ideas makes it possible for citizens generally to exercise their rights of free speech and press in a meaningful manner, such access prepares students for active and effective participation in the pluralistic, often contentious society in which they will soon be adult members."Students have an inalienable right to access literature with diverse ideas and perspectives for their personal and educational development. It would be particularly damaging to those students whose "fully internal and subjective sense of self" (90 Fed. Reg. 8615) is targeted and negated under this bill, who would no longer be able to see themselves reflected in books at school.
We at AABB ask the House Education & Workforce Committee members to consider the potential ramifications of HR 2616 and prevent this bill trom going any turther. We stay committed to doing everything in our power to defend the freedom to read.
Sincerely and respectfully, Authors Against Book Bans

The ASAN logo is at the bottom.Red gradient background. Inside of a light rounded box, text reads: International Workers’ Day, also known as May Day, is celebrated around the world on May 1st. Today, ASAN acknowledges the importance of labor and workers’ rights movements. Workers’ rights and disability rights are interconnected!
Throughout history workers have fought for and won things like the weekend, safety protections, the 8 hour workday, and more. International Workers’ Day celebrates these historic wins and remains a day when workers fight to improve conditions in their workplaces around the world.
Red gradient background. Inside of a light rounded box, text reads: While some disabled people cannot work, there are many disabled workers. Disabled workers often face discrimination in the workplace. Disabled workers are sometimes paid less than nondisabled workers.
Did you know it is still legal to pay disabled workers less than the minimum wage? Section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act allows some employers to pay disabled workers less than the minimum wage.
ASAN supports legislation like the Transformation to Competitive Integrated Employment Act (TCIEA), which would end subminimum wage for disabled workers.
There's a red gradient background and a silhouette fist on the right side. Text reads: Another way disabled workers can improve conditions is through unions. Unions help workers win pay increases and protections at work. A union is a group of workers who come together to advocate for improvement as a group. Union contracts help standardize pay, which can remove wage gaps for disabled workers.
This International Workers’ Day, ASAN celebrates and uplifts the struggles of workers with disabilities around the world! We will continue to support jobs and laws that give disabled people real work for real pay.
