Even Minneapolis has contributed less to Hourcar this year than St. Paul has. After the organization approached both cities earlier this year about unexpectedly-high insurance costs, St. Paul contributed $750,000 and Minneapolis put in $350,000. Hourcar's data shows the majority of its users live in Minneapolis, and most trips begin and end in Minneapolis.

Doing a pre-dawn house raid is obviously being done as thuggish intimidation and as a literally violent assault on her and her family. Overaggressive raids happen in other contexts but in this case it's going out of their way to do politically targeted state terrorism.

Some of the escalations we're seeing, including the attack on Ilhan Omar's home (I will not pretend this act was "investigatory"), are desperate acts. But we must remember that desperate people can be very dangerous. A domestic abuse victim, for example, is in the most danger when trying to leave.

fun fact: in 1992, berkley replaced columbus day with Indigenous Peoples day. then no other city or state did until 2014,when i was a policy aide for Alondra Cano and some friends and i convinced her to pass the resolution in Minneapolis. i got to write it and plan the celebration.

That is a really weird thing about here that’a different from everywhere else I’ve lived in the US (South , east coast, elsewhere in the Midwest ). I still wave or say something too. I haven’t had much of the outright hostility but it does seem to throw lots of people off.
