I think it was @catelli.bsky.social who said that Canada Post should be directed to develop a public email system for Canada, assigning emails to all residents. Paid by taxes plus fees for premium services. Strikes me as both technically and politically feasible. Now would be a good time.

My guess about Carney going forward. He is a neoliberal, so all of his policies will continue to follow his ideology. So, more tax cuts, more austerity and more privatization. Carney is who he is, especially in a crisis. If we want a different approach we will need a new PM.

Carney doesn't deserve this credit. He was fully prepared to increase integration with a corrupt, authoritarian regime, at the behest of a Canadian business community with its head up its ass. He only balked when late terms became obviously politically unpalatable.

The number one thing the Canadian government could do to strength Canada is to start drafting legislation to prevent majority ownership of Canadian resources by foreign entities. ie. US corporations own 60% of Canada's oil and a significant portion of our lumber.

Instructure owner of Canvas LMS changed terms of use to give it free access to all content on the platform, allowing it to train Ai models and market modules based upon the IP of instructors and students. I stopped using Canvas, but students adapted to digital learning think I’m disadvantaging them.

Wifredo Lam (pictured right) was a widely celebrated 20th century artist. An Afro-Cuban painter of Chinese & Congolese ancestry, a descendant of slavery, a colleague of Pablo Picasso (pictured left), Henri Matisse, & Frida Kahlo, Lam viewed his world-renowned work as “an act of decolonization.”
Black and white image of people, in the foreground Pablo Picasso is on the left, smiling with his arms crossed. On the right, Wifredo Lam is smiling and holding a cigarette and has one hand in his pocket. The photo was taken by André Villers around 1954.
