This was the largest picket I have ever seen at Edinburgh College of Art (& I’ve been at a fair few). Massive support from students as we fight against compulsory redundancies. @ucuedinburgh.bsky.social

The University of Edinburgh is a world-class institution and our members are determined to protect it. With an estimated 1,800 jobs at risk, staff are ready to strike for 25 days to defend jobs and the future of the university. Management can end this dispute: rule out compulsory redundancies.

Yesterday we lost one of our better ones, Christine Borland, an artist of rare touch and sensitivity, and one of the kindest, loveliest people you could ever wish to meet. This is how I'll remember her always, a smile on her face, her voice as soft as running water. My love to Ross and the girls. X
A photograph of Christine, a white woman in her late 50s, with short, dark hair, smiling, her head tipped back. She is wearing a cloak made from linen from one of her later projects. Behind her on the wall is the drawing of a figure; a toy skeleton hangs from the wall.

Missing from the coverage of redundancies at Edinburgh: this was done in such a haphazard, uncoordinated way, there are now core teams who have gone from 5 people to 1 with no change in workload or pressure and huge loss in knowledge of institutional process. www.heraldscotland.com/news/2576321...

Someone at a Russell Group university was moved to almost-poetry by their Faculty Meeting… Can anyone do better?
A satirical poem about universities.
All Staff Assembly

Unlike other universities
We do not have an emergency
However, we must continue
To take action with urgency

Don't let there be rupture
In trust over the new role families
This is not a restructure
There are always some redundancies

We do not work with arms companies
We work with engineering firm subsidiaries
Who produce dual use technologies
That kill people

Some of us are paid very differently
But this is very good for the university
You see, the disparities in our salaries
Are contributions to Diversity
