This is a very cool ghosty story. Committed performances all round & laced with melancholy. I first enjoyed it on VHS many moons past... Recommended.

The UK VHS box for ghost story "The Changeling" on the Video Tape Center (VTC) label. The box is gold coloured with some blue detailing. The image shows a cobwebbed, empty wheelchair casting a shadow. The shadow shows the silhouette of a child in the wheelchair.

Remembering the great actor Sir #MichaelHordern CBE who was #BOTD in 1911. Although he is known for his Shakespearean stage roles, especially King Lear, he also appeared in over 200 film and television productions which enlightened him to all age groups.

2/2 At well over 6 ft, he was an imposing figure with a kind of handsome/frightening vibe. He also (possibly most famously) wrote & played the monstrous leads in Anthropophagous & Absurd both #VideoNasties directed by Joe D'Amato. #RIPGeorgeEastman

UK VHS cover for gruesome Video Nasty Absurd. It features a big bloody axe on a blue background

German VHS cover for Absurd. It ft a skull, a scantily clad lady & a topless bearded guy (George Eastman) with an axe.

UK VHS cover for gory Video Nasty Anthropoghagous. It's a close up of George Eastman with kind of flaky looking monsterish make up and very odd teeth.

1/2 Just found out that #GeorgeEastman (born #LuigiMontefiori) died in May this year. An absolute stalwart of Italian exploitation cinema his work (acting, writing plus 2 films directed) incl spaghetti westerns, horror, hardcore porn, post-apocalyptic scifi, sword & sorcery etc.

The mainstream parties in the UK look on slack-jawed & enervated whilst these smirking fuckers purchase our democracy. Both infuriating & heartbreaking. #Reform #Politics #despair

A pair of smirking billionaire type wankers who expect us to believe that they have EACH donated £36M to 'grift machine' Reform with the expectation of no return whatsoever.
Oh & they both happen to be heavily into cryptocurrency...

Hey you! Yes, YOU. Wanna read a really good novel? Check out "The Fisherman" by John Langan @johnlangan.bsky.social. It's scary, weird, and also profoundly fine and understands the way men of a certain age both know one another and never quite know one another.

Watched early 90s vamp malarky Subspecies. All good fun, but was particularly impressef by the (?inadvertent) noise that the dark-haired fellow makes at the end of this clip.

The estimable and much missed Angus Scrimm has a pretty bold look in his (sadly) short-lived role in #Subspecies (1991) #horror #horrorfam

Angus Scrimm in Subspecies (1991). An older man sports a shocking white wig, pale face make up, a bright red shirt-type thing & a black cape.
He looks pretty crazy tbh.

From Subspecies (1991). Some kind of medieval room lit by a candelabra. An oldish guy with shocking white frizzy hair (a wig) stares dementedly to the left. He clutches his midriff with his left hand and lifts his black cape with his right, exposing the cape's gold lining. In the background a black clad & pale-faced menacing figure lurks, looking on.

If you grew up in the hey-day of practical effects driven horror, then Screaming Mad George's impact was undeniable. His name alone conjured visions of something forbidden and transgressive...and his work more than delivered on that promise. A literal icon who shaped the tangibility of modern genre.

A v cool flick. I had this edition of the book as a kid. Still find the cover particularly creepy.

Cover for the 70s paperback of occult horror novel The Mephisto Waltz. It features an old roll top bath full of red (?bloody?) water with a naked woman submerged within. Her face is kind of blurred & the whole vibe & effect is creepy AF

I loved when 'straight' TV progs would have a detour into horror territory. The voodoo 2 parter 'Starsky and Hutch on Voodoo Island' & the ep 'The Vampire' with the always fantastic John Saxon are both great. Oh & 'A Morkville Horror' (Mork & Mindy) is splendid fun.
