May I humbly suggest raking the leaves into your garden beds instead of putting them out for collection? Leaves are a necessary part of the habitat/ecosystem- they are a nice little winter bed for the babies of many pollinators, fireflies, and little creatures that help birds not starve.

Fuzzy wet bee looking cold and cute in the rain. 🌱 #invertefest #nativeplants of #maryland #gardening
A native bee, probably a common eastern bumble bee? clinging upside’s down to a goldenrod (probably Canada goldenrod?) flower cluster that is arched sideways by the rain. The bee is fuzzy and wet and just sleeping! Not dead! I checked by gently touching it and it moved its leg.

“Love in the Library,“ is a picture book by @maggietokudahall.bsky.social, with gorgeous illustrations by @yasimamura.bsky.social- a deeply human story, beautiful and moving, and as important now as ever. I highly recommend it.

Happy autumn equinox! I celebrate this day by thinking about what I can release in order to bring my life into balance. Is there a habit, thought pattern, worry, or use of my time that’s not serving me? I can let it go. Also: declutterring and weeding! #nativeplants #gardening #equinox 🌱

This is my first year with bottle gentian in my yard and I’m so excited! It’s almost at peak. This flower never opens; bees have to squeeze their way in to get the nectar, and get covered in pollen in the process. Such a strange/fun adaptation. Gentiana andrewsii #nativeplants #gardening 🌱

Partridge pea, Chamaecrista fasciculata, in the sunlight. A yellow blossom at the top. Leaves running down the left side of the stem, seed pods (imagine pea pods; they’re in the same family) running down the right side of the stem at almost the same angle.

we tracked months of rent payments to an estimated 13,000 families. the expected cost of rehousing those families, had they entered eviction, would be north of $218 million dollars. keeping them housed cost around $38-40 million

She's done y'all!!! My magnum opus 🥲 Stained glass window based on Audubon's painting of Baltimore orioles. Wood frame by my partner.
A stained glass window with light shining through it. The window depicts two Baltimore orioles and their nest in a blooming tulip poplar.A photo of me holding the stained glass window. The Audubon painting the window is based on. His painting was oriented vertically, so I had to "crop" it to get the more horizontal orientation I wanted. In his painting, there are four birds.A zoomed-out shot showing the panel placed in a window in my home. It fills the lower half of the window.

Folks, it’s time to have the conversation about goldenrod. The goldenrods (Solidago spp) are starting to bloom on the roadside and in fields. With every glimpse of those yellow flowers, people with allergies are getting nervous. But don’t blame the flowers, for goldenrod is not the culprit. (1/4)
