It seems this is specific to US Amazon. My Canadian account only has the option to volunteer info about myself. As I only use my US account to get books for my kindle, it thinks I’m a single adult monomaniacally reading multiple British crime fiction series at once.

Continuing posting on making comics accessible for blind/low vision readers, this part of our comic shows 6 possible ways of translating just a single panel, to really illustrate how one size doesn’t fit all needs. Accessibility is messy & an artistic act itself! spinweaveandcut.com/mitcomic/
A part of a comics page, it mostly shows a cube that represents six views of the same comics panel (we can only see three because this is flat paper, but can infer all six sides look the same) with a Batman like character swooping down on some villains. Emanating from it are voice captions that describe this panel in different styles - minimalist to radio drama and others.

These fragments from a Roman villa in Spain are not from a mosaic but from a fresco. If you look closely you’ll see a grid of lines, many following the contour of the figures, much as tesserae do on mosaics. This trompe-l’oeil technique simulates mosaics. 1/ 🏺 1st-2nd c. Museo de Málaga 📸 me
Fragment of a fresco depicting part of a human face, mostly the eyes. Thin lines form a grid pattern, simulating the edges of tesserae.Fresco fragment showing a naked torso of a woman, her legs and pubic area covered in a red himation (cloak). Her right hand carries a basket laden with fruit, which look like giant globes of grapes. Grapevine leaves appear in the background. A Dionysian scene. The faux tesserae grid lines follow the curves of the body.Fresco fragment depicting some sort of half-human creature with wild hair and bare torso, gesturing upwards with his right hand and holding a branched stick with his left. The faux tesserae grid lines follow the curves of his garment and body.Fresco fragment with the torso of perhaps a god with golden skin, a red himation flowing outwards and partially covering his or her legs. Perhaps Dionysos?

The Variants triptych presents the viewer with beauty and terror of knowing that from all the many possibilities we end up with one, unique person. Research into the early origins of health and disease helps us come to terms with this.

Finally, the third painting contains a single variant out of all the possible alternatives. In turn, this unique individual and their life experiences becomes one of many factors affecting the health of future generations, circling the viewer back to the first painting.
Image of “Variant 3”. The watercolor and colored pencil painting contains a single amorphous shape such as the ones at the center of the “Variant 2” clusters. The shape fills the paper and has areas of wet-into-wet watercolor contrasted with detailed renderings of histology images from the placenta, colon, and testes. There is one perfect circle of white negative space. It is painted with wet-in-wet watercolor technique in shades of alizarin crimson.

…fetal development with the rows and columns of abstract shapes containing fragments of histology images. The second painting combines some of these shapes into new, overlapping forms, drawing on the idea of Venn diagrams. Each group of overlapping shapes creates a unique possibility in its center.

I'm really grateful for the patience the AOC team showed the many times I was "almost finished" but then scrapped everything and started over again. I learned a lot from the experience, both about the origins of early health and disease, as well as my artistic process.

"Variants" addresses the complexity of factors affecting the early origins of health and disease. The sequence of paintings in this triptych guides the viewer through the process of a hypothetical fetus becoming a physical reality.
