I hate how much it's pushed. Making it such a central thing and pushing it with prizes really grinds my gears. How about making schools healthy environments with purified air, unrotten, unmouldy classrooms and a good breakfast and lunch... fixing the basics!

Yeah that's fair. I think the changes to the curriculum aren't necessarily helping though. Ultimately I would expect some more in depth lecturing on history for the curriculum at university.

I do struggle with the generalisations sometimes my brother has been a primary and now secondary teacher. He's sharp on history, math and spelling. He's not alone. We went to a decile 2 High School and we both came out good.

Can always be improved. Weird on the spelling though as I always thought that was a strong point. Was for me and seems to be for my daughter. I feel like a big problem is parents, especially the ones that aren't poor. They look at education as something they outsource. More Maori and NZ history sure
