"Viktor crashes back into himself with the frantic gasp of a drowning man. The half-elf is still looking at him, oddly stricken, and Viktor has just enough time to worry what the hells he shared before he realizes that this is not the time to be staring at each other.
He's not sure how his sanctuary will react to two bodies within it instead of one. For some reason, it never occurred to him to find out. But, for the moment, it's all that he has, and he's not about to watch someone get murdered because he startled them a bit. Viktor steps forward just enough to grab the stranger by the elbow and pull. There's no hope of brute force working under the circumstances, but luckily he comes willingly. Unluckily, Viktor is not the only one to notice the lapse: a worg breaks away from the main force and starts towards them.

""It still needed to be cleaned out,"" Viktor intones, a dangerous edge setting in. ""It is very easy to overlook the assistant. And everyone from the undercity knows how to sneak things past the Enforcers when necessary.""

Jayce's heart breaks all over again—but this is his fault, and he knows it, and if Viktor is willing to throw jabs at him about it then he might be willing to talk. Being eviscerated would be better than silence. ""I'm sorry—""
