when wrought iron is left out of the fire and gets too cold (conveniently for ancient smiths, this is close to where it stops visibly glowing in indirect light), hammering makes it splinter rather than bend, ruining it. Thus, one might say, when wrought iron gets older, it gets overwrought.

To explain (at least for the general audience, in case you already know this), wrought iron *has* to be worked hot because it's actually kinda like fiberglass. The process that refines it from the slag-pocketed 'bloom' doesn't actually get rid of the glassy iron-silicate slag, but incorporates it

Our cat Suki languished in a shelter for a year because she was bitey. But it was clear when we met they were attention-demanding nibbles. She is the cuddliest cat ever. The tummy is not a trap. When I'm on the computer she will lay propped up on my forearm, belly-out, and demand scritches.

A white-and-tabby cat lays with belly exposed and eyes closed, on carpet next to a laptop power brick she'd previously been cuddling.
