Reasons to read aloud to children: "starting young is linked to better attention, memory, executive function, academic achievement and fewer mental health problems." We need to help kids discover the joy of being completely absorbed in a book.

Dolly Parton lived her entire life knowing she was "rich in things that money don't buy" In 1995 she created the Imagination Library, which provides millions of free books to children in America, Canada, the UK, Ireland and Australia. Huge legacy of love and generosity as well as music and acting ❤️

I just learned that blueberries are part of the heather family (also cranberries and huckleberries). And that today is BC Blueberry Day (thank you to @drsuzannesimard.bsky.social ). These little plants were growing in a patch of heather. Perfect trail treat last summer!

After many days of increasingly cheerful chirping ALL the chickadees successfully fledged this year! Always amazing to see just how soft and cosy the nest is-how do they find all those strands of dog fur?

I started volunteering in a local park as a pandemic project and dug out this bramble patch. Crazy how fast the trees grew with the brambles gone. We planted native plants, and this winter I found a bird nest in one of the Nootka rose bushes - this project feels like an important accomplishment!
