When and what were the “Dark Ages”? Generally, 5th-10th centuries. Concept most assoc with Francis Petrarch, 14th-century Italian scholar, poet, humanist. Saw classical antiquity as age of light due to cultural achievements, what followed as an age of darkness. (Tony Dunnell, HistoryFacts, 7-6-2026)
