Government by emergency powers? Sidelining the judiciary and civil service? May be worth dusting off this piece I write about “enabling acts”, “executive orders” and all that. www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/comment/gove...

🚨 OCEAN HEAT: We are entering uncharted territory. Record-breaking ocean temperatures are pushing ecosystems closer to dangerous tipping points. Fossil fuel corporations and big polluters are gambling with a liveable planet for profit.
Line graph of Niño 3.4 sea-surface temperature anomalies from 1982–2026. The red 2026 line rises from around -0.7°C in January to nearly +2.7°C by mid-August, far above most previous years. Source: Climate Reanalyzer, using NOAA OISST v2.1 data.

It'll be pretty embarrassing if the dinosaurs went out with more dignity than us. They can't say they knew about the meteor for decades, knew exactly what to do about it, had all the technology and resources to stop it but didn't so five of them could own everything

Temperatures have now provisionally exceeded 37°C 🌡️ Before 2026, the UK had recorded 37°C or higher on only six occasions. This year alone, we've already reached that mark three times.
A table of top temperatures so far. The highest currently at 37.6°C at Charlwood.

Anyway the non rower artist delivered a magnificent painting, perspective errors all corrected, but with some new errors in the rigging of the boats. These were immediately spotted by the rowers and I think he was asked to correct those as well.

Pre AI my rowing club commissioned an artist to paint a replica of a painting of the founders which had been destroyed in WWII but ‘correcting the errors of perspective in the original’ (the guys in the foreground had comically large heads). There were engravings of the original to work from.

If a submarine is on duty does it have to return to port immediately to get a new letter? Or does it use the old one until its current deployment ends. Given recent PM churn I can see merit in the latter approach…

If anyone is thinking to do actual campaigning in Clacton, it is ESSENTIAL that you get agreement from Count Binface. This is not a joke. We do not want to get him into trouble.
All expenditure in support of a candidate MUST be accounted for by the candidate even if they didnt pay it out themselves. Otherwise he would be breaking the law for not declaring the expenditure in his post-election expenses return to the authorities.
Also any leaflets have to say who printed and published them, even if not produced by CBf himself. And the costs (even if donated by supporters) MUST be agreed by CBf so he can include them in his expenses return.
I should add that I do know what I am talking about - I was a member of the Greens and stood for election for many years, sometimes even successfully! CBf needs to be squeaky clean on this sort of thing, compared to Frogface.

Famously Reigate Grammar School converted from category 1 to category 2 above whilst Keir Starmer was a pupil there. As pupils were allowed to stay on this has allowed people to say he was a privileged private school pupil rather than a clever state school pupil. Seems a bit unfair to me though.
