This past weekend was my festival weekend. In addition to the Manifestival that I already posted about, I went to the RomaDiffusa festival in the Esquilino neighborhood of Rome on Sunday. It included visits to artists studios, art installations, and music.
Poster of the RomaDiffusa Festival held in the Esquilino neighborhood of Rome on 10 - 11 October 2026. A talk held outdoors during the festival about Fernanda Pivano, an Italian translator, writer, journalist, and music critic who was close to some of the Beat poets such as Allen Ginsberg and Gregory Corso.

I can confirm both things. Mass transit does not work well and cabs are often impossible to fine. I’ve survived the past 30 years with a motorbike (not a Vespa but similar) which is really a great way to get around.

Had the opportunity to attend a discussion on the state of journalism and satire in the difficult times we live in. The featured speaker was none other than @tomtomorrow.bsky.social, creator my favorite comic, This Modern World. A big thanks to Mr. Tomorrow and the organizers of the Manifestival.
A small stage with Tom Tomorrow, the 2 moderators, and the translator discussing the current state of satire in the United States.

I realize that I can’t read his side of the discussion because he (I can’t even see who it is) is someone I blocked previously. You didn’t block him. But reading your side only of this long argument, I think it’s pretty clear I made the correct decision to block. Thanks for your very coherent side.

Finally, there is also another festival taking place at the same time as yours (10-11 Oct) called Roma Diffusa. It will take place in in the Esquilino neighborhood of Rome. It has art installations, music, visits and other activities. So it might be worth checking out at some point.

There are also a lot of really nice contemporary wall murals around Garbatella where your festival is taking place and also in neighboring Testaccio. So just taking a walk in the neighborhood will be pretty interesting.

The Non-Catholic Cemetery is not too far from where your festival is taking place. Graves include Keats and Shelley, and Beat poet Gregory Corso, as well as Norman Rockwell’s son, the sculptor, Peter Rockwell. This is just to name a few. It is adjacent to the Pyramid of Cestius in Testaccio.

Great initiative , but it’s not “digitally preserving” but rather digitally documenting. Such documentation is important both for keeping the memory and information when objects and places are lost and useful for carrying out conservation over time. But preservation is for the objects and places.
