I've got a new student, he is blind and requires voiceover to use his iPhone but his hands tremble quite harshly and he has fine control issues. He keeps double tapping accidentally and when he tries to tap voiceover often reads it as a swipe. I understand that touch accommodations are still […]

@quixoticgeek@social.v.st This is generally the difference between subtitles for the deaf ('SDH') and foreign language subs that only translate the dialogue. Doing them well (especially where music or comic timing is involved) is an art form.

[AI map of NYC that broke my husband] @futurebird@sauropods.win I mean, I say 'geographically plausible', assuming you discount the weird perspective, the bridges that don't make sense and whatever happening in New Jersey.

@quixoticgeek@social.v.st Yeah, and in those days even Canterbury to London wasn't a trivial journey: Real risk of hypothermia, tweenagers signing Craig David for three hours and, on a bad day, having to change at Faversham.

@MikeFromLFE@cupoftea.social At some point in the early 1990s I accidentally discovered that TOTP was broadcast with full teletext subtitles of all the song lyrics. @sheddi@mstdn.party @quixoticgeek@social.v.st I think a fair amount of it would have been about regulating pressure: With a local header tank, the pressure at the taps (and, unlike with combi boilers, hot water temperature) stays more or less the same, even if someone else in the house uses […]

There's another one of it sitting on a toilet with the lid down, reading a book cross-eyed. And one of it in a bath having a shower with perspective problems.

This campsite has framed slop of a cutesey highland coo eating bogroll in the toilet block. I have no idea why.
Generative image of a cute Ewok-like highland cow, sitting on its back legs on the floor of a bathroom with mutant toilet/sink hybrid plumbing. The cow appears to have been caught naughtily nibbling a toilet roll, with sheets hanging out of some unseen orface in the fur behind its mouth/nose. Gills, perhaps? Another toilet roll lies on the floor in front, because our naught cow is also a greedy cow.

This has been colour printed, framed and hung in the toilet block of a campsite, where you would normally expect to find adverts for Camping and Caravanning Club member benefits, or Boomer memes about caravanning.

@quixoticgeek@social.v.st No, none of the BHPC streamliners are. Even the ones with landing gear (which solves about 90% of the starting-and-stopping) problem, have a very restricted view, limited turning circle, gearing for a nominally flat race track, no redundant braking (Notso's unusual in […]

@quixoticgeek@social.v.st Bomb-bay doors let your feet touch the ground, but limit how wide apart you can spread them. Can just about hold the bike upright in still air if you don't try and do anything else like fiddle with the lid. Standard procedure is to have someone ready to catch the bike […]

@quixoticgeek@social.v.st Racing the _Notso_ (Leaper "Not-So-Low") streamliner for the last couple of seasons. At some point at the start of this year I stopped falling over due to general n00b bike-handling incompetence and started crashing due to racing too hard for the conditions.
