Ah, milk of the poppy? Tiny (and I mean TINY) bit of hemlock? (No, seriously, don't even try the hemlock.)

Correction, that would be pneumonic plague, which is worse than bubonic in terms of infection rate as it's transmitted via droplets rather than from direct contact or infected fleas.

There used to be a flash game back in ye olde tymes where you could guide a pandemic.. It was very, very difficult to infect Madagascar.. So we'd be safe there! Ironically, Madagascar is one of the few places in the world where plague is still endemic, where it has a 75% mortality rate.

A man died of plague in Siberia? Oh, nice. We've been looking for something highly infectious and deadly since the last pandemic levelled out, haven't we? No, but seriously, with modern sanitation and knowing how plagues work is in our favour here.. Unless it's a mutated strain, obviously.

Ahh, unlucky mate. Turns out trans healthcare is still the scientifically and morally correct thing to do. I assume you'll be apologising now? Not sure why you thought the last 5 years would be different to the nearly 100 before that but ok
Some prick from Twitter exactly 5 years ago saying "I do hope in five years when this has been consigned to the rubbish heap that your apology to the legions of mutilated 20somethings will be fulsome and abject, Katy. You're going to have a LOT of explaining to do."

Not dissimilar to how the medieval Catholic church used Latin for its texts while almost everyone else couldn't read or write it at all, unless you were an elite of course.

It seems they had three tiers of writing, the sacred, hieroglyphics, language used by scribes and the educated elites for everyday usage called Hieratic and Demotic, used by everyone else. So don't feel sad that you can't read hieroglyphs! Most of the ancient Egyptians couldn't either.

ѕтєνєn @killerma.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Egyptian hieroglyphics were only used in sacred instances, the name comes from Greek, meaning 'sacred texts' and would have only been understood by a few people educated in them, for most of the ancient Egyptians it would have been beyond their educational scope, they used much simplified language.

I am not very worried about about the Tory Tapestry’s misuse of “doth”. What worries me much more is this sequence of panels which seems to show a small boat full of brown-skinned people followed by a plague of rats running riot and then a lot of dead white people labelled tax payers.
Detail from Conservative Party mock Bayeux Tapestry showing 1. A boat full of brown skinned people. 2. Enormous rats chasing cats. 3. White-skinned “tax payers” dead in the streets.

4.) To take somebodies life, whoever that person is and whatever they have done, is reprehensible. You cannot both say that killing someone is wrong but then kill someone.. It is hypocritical and yet another loss of life. 5.) And while I'm at it, fuck all the blasphemy laws in the world. ALL OF 'EM!

1.) Killing someone for a crime won't stop the crime from having already happened, you're not doing anything productive. You're just killing someone else. 2.) Innocent people have been executed for crimes they did not commit, it's a travesty. 3.) Justice should never be about vengeance.

Hearing about the fuc*ing horrific botched execution in the USA of a woman named Christa Pike, I don't know what crime she committed to be sentenced to death, but frankly it doesn't matter, I'm staunchly against the death penalty for anyone. There's a number of reasons why.

It's amazing how many people have this inability to understand they don't know everything and thus may be wrong about stuff. It's not a bad thing to be ignorant of things, and it's not a bad thing to need to ask a professional for help and advice.. A real professional, not some quack online.

I mean, our ancestors did manage to survive illness.. At least to the point of reproducing.. But in my own family tree I can tell you that not everyone is making it out of childhood in the past and some of them aren't making it very far past 25 either. So.. You know.. Medicine 'n stuff.

The issue isn't that your body *won't* deal with smallpox or measles on it's own, it can.. the issue is the illness might kill you before you reach immunity.. or a secondary infection finishes the job.

The most powerful thing about reading is discovering words for what we've always felt but never could say. Baldwin was a master at this.
‘You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read. It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, who had ever been alive.’

"Violating Leviticus in the locker room" is a phrase we need to get into circulation. So far I’ve got that, aside from men on men loving, it also has the vibe for: -being on your period -getting drunk at an inopportune moment -hiding in the lav to avoid someone difficult at work

I miss the old days when a disgruntled noble in a dispute with the crown would just spent a few years sulking in the Low Countries before landing at a fishing village in the south west with some Flemish mercenaries and heading for the Welsh Marches to raise his banner. Much more dignified.
