The 2025 ENOVAT guidelines suggest perioperative and post-op antibiotics are not needed for cystotomy. Old habits are hard to change, but WHY PRESCRIBE PRADOFLOXACIN FOR A CLEAN PROCEDURE?!?! Here comes more antibiotic resistance…

Subclinical bacteriuria didn’t affect survival or rate of progression in feline CKD. But ~80% of SBU cases were treated with abx, so this doesn’t really tell us if untreated SBU affects outcome. doi.org/10.1093/jvim... #vetneoh

A while ago, we launched WormsAndGermsMap, for crowd-based reporting of infectious diseases in companion animals It didn't really work out, in large part because the tech wasn't ready (at least in our $ range) But, since tech (and diseases) have advanced, we're trying again 1/n

When cystectomy isn’t an option (trigonal lesions, surgical risk, etc. ) transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) can also be considered. Currently only offered at a few hospitals in the US. See your local DACVNU for more info!

Interesting findings. But comparison to historical data isn’t ideal. And squeezing in a meta-analysis is a bit much. Especially when there is no assessment for bias risk. Personally, I’m not convinced.

Yes- horses can get membranous nephropathy! Really nice spikes and holes on the silver stain and subepithelial complexes confirmed on EM. This horse had nephrotic edema and hypoalbuminemia. UPC was 5.8. #vetneph

Eva Furrow discusses metabolism and genetics of urolithiasis. The SLC2A9 mutation associated with urate urolithiasis is linked to spot color. The dogs were bred for looks and resulted in nearly 100% penetration of the mutation in the breed line!

Just a reminder from your friendly neighborhood veterinary nephrologists- lily plants are LETHAL to cats! All parts (flowers, pollen, leaves, stem) contain a toxin that causes severe acute kidney injury. Please keep them out of the house and ask florists to post warnings on bouquets containing them.

Treatment duration for pneumonia in dogs and cats, a systematic review (Emdin et al 2025) Not surprisingly, data were limited. Not surprisingly, shorter durations (10-14d) appear to be equivalent to longer durations (21-28d) in dogs (no data for cats). 1/n
