Very intrigued by this combination If they do this because they believe in Castle's viability as a wing/forward next to Fox-Harper, I hope for success If they do this just to not bench one of the three guards, Champagnie might return to the starting lineup 20 games in

Some very exciting personal news! I am overjoyed to announce that I have accepted the position as the new Timberwolves reporter at the Minnesota Star Tribune! I'm so excited to be joining a staff of incredible journalists, to move to a wonderful city, and to cover a wildly interesting team!

Every off-season, NBA teams take low-cost fliers on former lottery picks and stalled prospects. How often do these bets pan out? I looked at the historical data to find out. First article at the new site! Do Cheap Fliers on Failed Prospects Work? intheno.net/do-cheap-fli...

Front offices originally worked under the assumption that the NBA salary cap would rise the max 10% each season to $228 million in 2029-30. Now they’re projected to have $35m less than expected that season. Production per dollar has become one of the most important stats in the league.
Line chart titled "The NBA's Vanishing Cap Room," subtitled "Original salary cap projections vs. current projections." Two lines from 2024-25 to 2029-30: original projections (gray dashed) rising from $140M to $228M, and current projections (navy solid) rising from $140M to $193M. Both lines match through 2025-26 at $155M, then diverge — gaps of −$6M in '26-27, −$15M in '27-28, −$25M in '28-29, and −$35M in '29-30, shown as a shaded pink area between the lines. So, not exactly looking like there are going to be any centers hitting free agency who are both better, while playing starter-caliber minutes, AND cheaper, in terms of contract value, than Ivica Zubac.

Takeaway from this: The Pacers have been excellent at pro scouting, identifying players who can flourish in a different context, but the draft scouting and/or player development has left quite a bit to be desired — even when considering that that they haven’t had a lot of top picks.

Makes me wonder if they would move Dort, Topic and Sorber (for draft capital), and re-sign Kenrich at veteran minimum Try to stay away from the second apron, and get low cost fliers to see if they can stick and sign team-friendly contracts

The trend actually started in the second round: Fox shot ~10% worse from both RA and non-RA paint area since the Wolves series It’s a mix of the high ankle sprain and struggling against elite defenders with length (esp McDaniels/OG/Mikal) The FO and the coaches have to discern

Picked the Spurs in 7 when it was reported that Ant would return in Game 3. Pretty sure that the Wolves have some chances but the Spurs should be fine as long as they clean up their mistakes Long series tho

A lot of hooting and hollering about playoff paths and I hear it but... I think the 62 win team probably thinks they can beat everyone Is there any credit to the Nuggets for winning 12 straight and the last 2 featuring rest? They don't go on that run there isn't a convo

Couple interesting facts in this piece: 1) Spurs are only the team whose single-season 3-point mark is under 200. 2) Only two teams with an older 3-point mark than Spurs before Saturday -- Milwaukee (Ray Allen, 2002) and Orlando (Dennis Scott, 1996). www.expressnews.com/sports/spurs...

The Pacers are going to have a lot of versatility at the center position next season: Rim-roller/hand-off hub in Zubac, "spacer" with Huff, speed lineup with Toppin, or Walker-Furphy-Siakam to go small and switch. Glad they kept Walker and Furphy out of the deal.
