Ran a #DnD game tonight and had mounts (horses) in dangerous, non-combat situations. A horse got hurt crossing a river, and I came up with a new rule: the mount’s first injury isn’t HP damage, but means it can’t support a rider. Narratively added a complication without damaging a PC’s animal friend.

I mostly run D&D quests that can be completed in a single session. The two basic guidelines I stick to are very boring 😅 1) Budget roughly 45 minutes for every major interaction (Combat, Investigation, Negotiation, etc) 2) Standard story pacing (Rising action, Climax, Resolution)

I play in Jess’s #DnD games and he plays in mine. We have very different styles! My structure (3-4 hour game): 1) Intro/setup 2) 3-4 beat loop of a mix of social, exploration and/or minor combat (30 min each) based on what the table’s responding to. 3) Climactic battle (1 hour) 4) Denouement

During the first year of the pandemic a restaurant in the neighborhood decided to paint a mural on their wall. Anyway, this is as far as they got.

A picnic bench sits in front of a blue wall. An outline of a dog has been painted as if it is sitting on the bench. It has its tongue out and is looking a crude outline of a person about to serve some sort of dish (maybe chicken or turkey). The spot on the wall where the dog is positioned is painted a lighter shade of blue, as if someone had tried to paint something there before (maybe a person sitting at the bench), decided against it, and painted over it with the wrong paint color.

Personal Safety Attendant at a hospital. I sat with (usually heavily sedated) patients overnight to make sure they didn’t harm themselves: pull out stomach tubes, try to get out of bed while having their rib cage held together by staples, etc.

I was reading this clickbaity Oregonian article about support for renaming Chavez Boulevard and there's some really suspicious language around the percentage of people that want the street to revert to 39th. www.oregonlive.com/environment/...

Last night someone going to the Gillian Welch show at Rev Hall parked their Tesla in front of the driveway of an apartment building's garage. The residents couldn't get in or out of their parking and tried to find the owner, but after failing to contact them they had the car towed.

I use Google Maps constantly for my Portland history research, and over the past couple of years the AI powering the site has really degraded the information. Some houses have no street numbers at all, while other houses gain additional non-existent street numbers.
