Nobel laureate Anne Carson’s Grade 13 yearbook entry from Port Hope High School quotes Nobel Peace Prize winner Norman Angell, Geothe, Richard Brinsley Sheridan, Louisa May Alcott and Lewis Carroll.
Photo of a young Anne Carson with text to the left of it that reads: ANNE CARSON The great illusion. A pretty foot is a great gift of nature. Never say more than is necessary. An oyster may be crossed in Love. Now I am beginning to live a little and feel less like a sick oyster at low tide. Oh my fur and whiskers. Zamboanga! Zamboanga!

One of my favorite Anne Carson facts: she was friends with Lou Reed. This is “Lou’s Grace” from Float (2016).

Many congratulations to Anne Carson for the well-deserved Nobel Prize! This is also great news for Translation, Classics, Poetry, the breaking of generic and disciplinary boundaries, and the fact that you don't have to fit a pre-existing mould to have a brilliant, successful career.

Heartbreaker at Gentile as Loyola Women’s Volleyball falls to UIC 3-2. Fifth set was insane. Played their hearts out. Quick turnaround: they’re back at it tomorrow vs DePaul at McGrath-Phillips. Almost never knew what a great volleyball town this is! Conference season is going to be lit.

The government hasn’t shared full plans for the possible closings in California and Chicago, where historical records on immigration, land rights and more are housed.

How about The Big Lebowski? Ironic deconstruction of various tropes/definitions of the good life, e.g. trophy wife, stoner guy who doesn’t do much of anything (bowls, listens to Bob), patriotism/jingoism, the Big Lebowski (“Get a job, sir!”) and his urban achievers, the enemies are nihilists, etc.
