MS in freshwater/invertebrate ecology

The Odum School of Ecology is seeking applicants for a M.S. position in the research group of Dr. John Wares (www.wareslab.net) in partnership with US Forest Service Research & Development. Research project will be partially defined by funding source and region, with a focus on freshwater mussels in the Great Lakes region; the project may incorporate comparative work with freshwater mussels/habitats in the southeastern US. New article from my former PhD student that looks to understand how competition with invasive round gobies might influence native slimy sculpin populations in the Great Lakes. Lab trials showed that gobies could outcompete slimies for shelters, but temps and fish size could influence effects.🐟

Not much is scarier for a #GreatLakes fish than the invasive sea lamprey, sometimes called vampire fish 🧛 But while they're more trick than treat in their introduced range, they're actually threatened in parts of their native range of the Atlantic coasts of Europe + North America - that's scary!
