It’s been 8 days and we still don’t know the names of the men who murdered Alex Pretti. DHS must be abolished. No ICE. No palantir surveillance police state. There’s no “fixing” a sociopathic agency designed to trample on our freedoms.

The people who are saying shit like "well it's either this or the borders are totally open" are doing their best to convince America that we should have completely open borders.

My cartoon for this week’s @theguardian.com books

Ten small comic panels:
1. The writer, anxiously hunched over his laptop, unhappily struggling to create.
2. "I've finished my book" he says. Arms aloft in celebration.
3. The agent says "It's great! I have a few notes."
4. And so... The writer is back at his laptop, unhappily struggling to create.
5. "I've finished my book" he says. Arms aloft in celebration.
6. The editor says "It's great! I have a few suggestions."
7. And so... The writer is back at his laptop, unhappily struggling to create.
8. "I've finished my book" he says. Arms aloft in celebration
9. The readers says "It's great! We need a sequel."
10. And so... The writer is back at his laptop, unhappily struggling to create.

In preparation for the March 14 total lunar eclipse, I imaged the Moon last night with a monochrome ZWO ASI2600MM camera and RGB filters. I have always used a color camera (or color film) for total lunar eclipses. Monochrome is trickier to process, but brings out more detail. #astrophotography

NGC 1365 - A Cosmic Maelstrom in Fornax - From Rolf Wahl Olsen - flic.kr/p/2izLvCo

Here is my latest astro image; ~44 hours exposure showing the majestic barred spiral galaxy NGC 1365 located in the southern constellation of Fornax at a distance of 56 million light-years:
www.rolfolsenastrophotography.com/…/Galax…/i-QVPs5Vq

Visible in this deep image are several faint streams extending out from the main arms, especially along the Western and Southern edge of the galaxy (3 to 6 o'clock position). These may be remnants of mergers with smaller dwarf galaxies or perhaps structures within the spiral arms themselves.

The galaxy is significantly larger than our own Milky Way, with the two main spiral arms spanning up to 200,000 light-years. The symmetrical arms curve around the entire galaxy forming an almost ring-like halo. Together with the prominent central bar the arms outline an elegant Z, making NGC 1365 one of the most striking and beautiful galaxies in the sky.

Bright knots of young star clusters and red emission nebulae dot the entire galaxy, and in the centre dark dust lanes trace around a cosmic maelstrom. The active nucleus of NGC 1365 hosts a supermassive black hole with the mass of approximately 2 million solar masses and rotating near the speed of light.

In the background the entire field of view is littered with distant galaxies of various sizes and shapes. Many of these can be seen through the spiral arms and tidal streams of NGC 1365. Even a couple of very distant galaxy clusters can be seen. Many of these background galaxies are so far aw...

When ego flares, remember: amidst two trillion galaxies, your story is but a whisper in the cosmic chorus. Latest estimates suggest there could be up to 2T galaxies in the observable universe, based on data from the Hubble Space Telescope and recent studies. Visuals by @venusianchron.bsky.social

This stunning image captures the breathtaking beauty of a spiral galaxy, alive with vivid colors and intricate details. At its heart, bright yellow and white hues converge into a luminous center, which then fades into soft blues and purples spiraling outward, defining the galaxy's graceful arms. Stars twinkle across the expansive, dark background, adding depth and emphasizing the vastness of the universe. This spectacle of captivating colors and celestial elements sparks wonder about the cosmos and its endless mysteries.

The James Webb Space Telescope's Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) has unveiled the majestic spiral galaxy NGC 3627 in exquisite detail. The image showcases the galaxy's grand design, with prominent spiral arms winding outwards from a luminous central core. The arms are studded with clusters of young, hot stars, while the core harbors a supermassive black hole. The image also reveals a delicate dusting of interstellar dust lanes, tracing the galaxy's intricate structure.
