I do have the full one because I do use the editing features, but still seems excessive

Adobe does like to keep previous versions of their apps installed when updating, which is annoying. My guess is bad caching, and AI feature bloat

I was thinking the same thing, but even then, is it a 10gb model? seems insane... but also sort of part for the course with how this stuff goes these days 🙃

There's a defeatist vibe rn and I think there's an inevitability feeling washing over us. There is no inevitability. If you're in a position to speak up against the direction the industry is taking, I'd say now is the time to do that. I certainly try because I cannot be fired and it does help!

oof. gut punch! But this blog post is worth a read and a think
Secondly, and more… interestingly, a lot of people are making their applications accessible because if a human cannot navigate a website, an agent might not be able to either.

Probably not that hard to do. YouTube's API is pretty limited, but it lets you scrape comments, though if you wanted them in real time I guess that would be an issue. Not sure what the next steps from that would be either 😅.

"If you are using AI in your writing, concentrate more on the research and goal defining part of the work, rather than the word-generating part." @rachelandrew.co.uk's post is about technical writing, but I think if you went through and replaced *writing* with whatever job you want, and it works.

More than words
While I've done a lot of reference documentation writing, my favourite type of work is writing tutorials and "how to" content. I enjoy the challenge of understanding a technology and an audience, then explaining the technology to that audience. AI seems to be particularly bad at creating this kind of content. When people try, they...

Just watched the video by @kevinpowell.co about AI impact on our jobs: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aW7... I feel like many of us might be having "AI burnout" - a new type of burnout that we in software industry didn't see before. The analogy of moving from hand-crafted to conveyor belts seems right.

on the anthropic IPO stuff, I think this via @garbageday.email is pretty much spot on www.garbageday.email/p/they-want-...
But I’ll end this here with a little conspiracy theory courtesy of Hacker News that I have decided I will believe until I see proof to the contrary. “OpenAI and Anthropic are publicly asking for slowdown in AI research,” one user wrote. “Translation: We see this technology not being any more useful than what it is now, no AGI is coming, and the first one to accept this and slow down the dollar burn rate will incur the wrath of the market. So let's say this big boogeyman technology will end all life on earth and we all slow down together.”

Excited to see we'll eventually have responsive iframes. It's a one-liner in CSS with `frame-sizing: content-height;` but it does require a meta tag to opt-in from the embedded doc as well. Currenly only behind a flag in Chrome, but will be nice to have once it starts landing.

Chrome 154 adds support for responsively-sized iframes, letting an iframe size itself based on the intrinsic size of its embedded document.

It’s annoying when your browser zooms if a button is rapidly tapped. There’s actually a really simple fix and no, you don’t have to prevent all zooming with a meta tag!

This conversation inspired me to write a bit more about polyfilling/fallbacks for progress(). If your breakpoints are in pixels, which they usually are, all you need is this! Not a nice as progress() but a lot better than I proposing in my previous article. Only 1 @property and 1 tan(atan2())
CSS code: @property --vw { syntax: "<length>"; inherits: true; initial-value: 100vw; } :root { --progress: clamp(0, tan(atan2(var(--vw) - 300px, 1200px - 300px)), 1); }

:placeholder-shown:valid (or with :invalid) is very similar to :user-valid and invalid. They're looking for a way to trigger if a user visits a field, but leaves it without adding anything to it (so the placeholder will still be there)
