Realistic grainy shadows on @codepen.io codepen.io/thebabydino/... Inspired by codepen.io/gayane-gaspa... except not setting each image as a div background, then duplicate it on a pseudo. Instead, I'm using a single img elem with an alt. More maintainable, accessible + get right click img menu.
Screenshot. Shows a 3×2 grid of neon images, each with a shadow that is basically its own grainy blur, slightly more transparent self, offset towards the bottom right.

#tinySVGtips: If you want a circle in the middle of your #SVG, choose your `viewBox` wisely. Both options below produce the same visual result, but the second one makes it easier to use the circle later. To animate transform (make it pulse), to build (animated) pie/ 🍩 charts and so on.

Gemini will summon Satan before it creates a pentagon with a vertex at 6 o'clock.
Asking Gemini to add 5 equally spaced points on a circle starting from 6 o'clock (bottom middle).

It creates 5 equally spaced points starting from 12 o'clock instead and an extra sixth point sitting awkwardly in between at 6 o'clock.I ask it to flip the whole thing upside down and get rid of the awkward extra point.

It produces the exact same result.I ask it to flip it upside down or rotate by 180deg.

It produces 6 points, equally spaced around the circle, starting from 12 o'clock.I specifically ask for 5 points, not 6, equally spaced around the circle.

It does that, with the first point at 12 o'clock, of course.

Know the animated 🌈 border + glow effect that's all the rage? It's normally done by adding an opaque cover on top of two 🌈 layers. But what if we wanted a (semi)transparent background within the border? It's possible with pure #CSS! Heavily commented on @codepen.io: codepen.io/thebabydino/...

Slice! is one of my faves this year and my only 2024 demo to get hearted ❤️ 400 times. codepen.io/thebabydino/... Uses absolutely no text duplication whatsoever and no images save for CSS gradients. #SVG filters 🪄 take care of both the slice & offset effect and the texture.

Once again, the advice is in the title of the post. But I will ramble anyway since you scrolled this far. First run with the advice, and then review some background on ARIA and how navigation and menu...

Same text effect: ✨pure #CSS codepen.io/thebabydino/... ✨with an #SVG filter codepen.io/thebabydino/... Pure CSS version obviously requires a wrapper and if you're thinking why is the SVG version so overly complicated, well... browser bugs. Ironically, not even SVG, but CSS bugs...🪲
On a black to purple top to bottom grainy gradient, the text "stay alive" in all caps, split across two lines, one word on each. Each line has an aqua to deeppink gradient with small horizontal gaps. The gradient stripes cast a shadow to the bottom right.

Stupid #a11y question: if multiple images form a logo and I wrap these `img` elements in a `div` with `role='img'` and an `aria-label`, do I still need to set an empty `alt` on the `img` elements?

Video fill text on @codepen.io codepen.io/thebabydino/... Wraps naturally, is selectable, easily stylable from the #CSS. May have anything around text: an interactive canvas, another vid. Gets play button for vid if browser blocks autoplay/ prefers-reduced-data/ motion. Paused if outside viewport.

Beside the fact that borders, shadows & so on apply to it, `border-shape` is different from `clip-path` in another way: `filter` gets applied after `border-shape`, but before `clip-path`. Both orders can be useful. But before, we didn't have both & we needed to nest elements to emulate that. #CSS

Screenshot. The same 2×2 square grid containing 4 non-square images, each tightly contained in the middle square box and with a blur extension filling the empty cell space along the axis of its shorter edge.
