To put this in perspective chestnut trees used to be dominant species in the United States. Billions of trees were killed by fungal blight and now fully grown America chestnuts are functionally extinct. There is no getting them back. Ever. All for a data center. www.gadgetreview.com/one-of-ameri...

One of America’s Last Chestnut Groves Is About to Be Destroyed for a Data Center
A rare 200-tree American chestnut grove in West Virginia may be cleared for data-center development, but the project denies the site is on its land.

I want to be clear that this isn't aimed at one specific person because I've seen a lot of Discourse about how to fix the problem coming from men that does not revolve around "fix the hearts of men" and that is the only solution.

DoorDash spent $1.4M trying to stop Zohran Mamdani from becoming mayor. This week's historic $131.5M enforcement action against DoorDash for underpaying NYC delivery workers shows why. Yet another reminder that the only thing that can beat organized money is organized people.

This month's @motherjones.com cover is astounding. Reposted with alt text:
Cover of the September-October issue of Mother Jones Magazine: a white background with the words "50 years of fearless journalism" in black print, centered above the name/logo of the magazine in large Bright Red. Below that in black, the words "the southern strategy — jim crow was dead and buried. Then came the Roberts court."

And then, framing those words, there are two sets of robes: to the left, the simple black robes of the Judicial Branch of the United States Government, as a Supreme Court Justice might wear; to the right, the white robes and hood of the KKK.

A white person's hand with cuff of business suit and shirt visible, reaches into the scene from the right, poised to grab the Klan robes.

A real problem with concerns about oil prices spiking even more than they already have is that people cannot do anymore to mitigate increased costs. There's already been mass layoffs, SNAP cuts, plus higher energy and food prices. The unnecessary US-Canada trade war. People are exhausted.

of course the tough part is getting justice for the women and girls harmed by Epstein and his many co-conspirators, supporters and pals who mostly still walk free and wield enormous power. but repeating, as often as possible, their names and crimes seems like a good start.

And *right here* in Quebec we have Quebec Solidaire. And if you don't like certain aspects of the platform - you could join and enter in a conversation. but keeping our democracy - any of our democracies - really does implicate everyone in voting, paying attention, and keeping parties accountable

now, just because i've been able to make peace with some light separatism does not mean that you have to. but too often we get sucked in to the narrative that we have no meaningful choices. Democratic Socialists of America and Working Families Party are *right there* if you're in the US.

Here in Quebec we are in an election right now. What's the vision of the future that you want? What if you could vote for that? Because lots of people here have been doing this work for a while. how about: lower the rent, lower grocery costs, support public transport?
Yellow, purple and green rectangles that respectively say "Contrôler le prix des loyers", with a house icon, "Baisser le coût de l'épicerie" with a basket icon and "choisir le transport collectif" with a plant icon. Underneath in orange is written "c'est possible"
