My very, very small anecdote is chatting to a guy at a silent book club about his Barbara Kingsolver book and asking if he generally read literary fiction, to which he replied, oh I read everything like... essays. and non-fiction." I was a little astounded by this definition of "everything."

OH I BURIED THE LEDE. She wrote him a bunch of letters and then some guy shows up having read her letters and is like "hey I'm here I didn't die after all" and she can't tell everyone she made it all up so now she has a fiancé, whoops. LOL

Cannot wait for this one! I recently picked up the paperbacks of the first two because they were SO GOOD and I'll have to do a reread while I wait.

I keep saying this to people. "I did this with AI." Cool, I've been doing it with an Excel formula for the last 5 years and mine is consistently correct and I know how to fix it if something goes wrong.

I was really enjoying listening to 99% Invisible's History of the US in 100 objects, but have to unsubscribe after they have CLAUDE sponsoring an episode. Seriously? You're a creative architecture podcast and you're going to shill for AI? Ah well, more time to catch up on other things.

I have played SO MUCH of this game. I'm really enjoying what feels like kind of a slower pace. I'm in summer of year 2 and I feel like I'm only maybe halfway through the story.

Look at thisssss! My beautiful book two cover is live!! 💙📚
The cover of the Uncanny Art of Faerie Contracts, by Reena McCarty. The background is a sunset--purpleish red fading down through orange to yellow at the bottom, where there's a wintery mountain range with a stand of pine trees in front. The trees are a variety of colors--green and yellow and also some that are reddish and creamish. The cover is mostly taken up by a scroll with the title, surrounded by autumn flowers, pine cones and branches, some mysterious out-of-season glacier lilies, anda dip pen and pickaxe. The cover is on a mock-up book, set against a background photo of snowy pine woods. There are some purple asters and red and yellow blanketflowers (ooh, not a montana native! What are you doing here, stranger? Who can say??) tucked in the corners.April 6th, 2027! Text reads: It's been a year since Poppy Hill left Otherside after making a desperate deal for her life. A year in which all bargaining has been stopped by order of the Wild King, as he works to secure his throne amongst growing rumors of a curse on his line.
Then King Theron himself comes looking for Poppy's help negotiating a new kind of contract, and she finds herself drawn back into a world of Faerie politics, schemes and intrigue. But Poppy's loyalties are already owned by another, and the one pulling her strings has her own plans for the Wild.
Plans that will force Poppy closer to the king than she ever imagined possible.

on a backdrop of a bright yellow larch tree in a green pine wood, with the same flowers from the previous slide, along with a round sticker that says "unionize your faerieland" in yellow. There is also a statue of a big cow.

we’re at around 5,400 subscribers right now. help us make some cool shit happen
5,500 - You Are Error (finally) returns.
5,800 - We can travel to and cover events more regularly.
6,000 - We’ll launch an annual Aftermath zine that bundles together our favorite stories of the year in physical form.
6,150 - A second party, and we can cover Luke’s travel expenses (though given the current state of America, we doubt he’ll want to attend).
6,300 - One of us will read a horrible video game book of readers’ choosing and write a book report about it.
6,500 - We can bring on people in a part-time capacity to help us with more specialized tasks (a video person, a dedicated businessperson, someone to focus on our social media accounts and promotion, etc).
7,000 - We can hire a new full-time staff member!
8,000 - A third party, in Australia (we’re already training to fend off the magpies).
10,000 - A lucky reader gets to meet one of our cats.
??? - We can rent some sort of office space and work together in-person if we so choose (hijinks will ensue).
99,999 - Inside Baseball Year.
100,000 - Though G/O Media no longer exists, we will nonetheless purchase the biggest, nicest cannon we can find and fire somebody whose name rhymes with Spim Janfeller out of it.
150,000 - We’ll force the owners of Polymarket and Kalshi to duke it out in the UFC Octagon.
