This is the story behind Dolly Parton's hit song "9 to 5". In the 1970s women in office jobs faced discrimination. They were paid less, passed over for promotions and experienced sexual harassment. The 9 to 5 movement was established to fight for better treatment of working women.

I worked Uni clearing hotlines 13 years ago (my favourite casual job) and being shocked at how many parents called up for their kids. "Sorry, we need to talk to the applicant" "But he's upset" "We need to talk to the applicant" "We'll call you back" 2 hours later "Sorry, the course is full now."

I have a similar view about chip portion sizes. You go to several different restaurants or takeaways or cafes, and there's no uniformity of what 'a portion of chips' is. Is it a tiny ramekin? is it however many can fit on a spatula? Are there enough chips to fill me up for the rest of the day?
