Just a reminder: Tillis persuaded the woman Hegseth allegedly raped to come forward with her story, and told her that if she did, it would sink the nomination. She did. At great risk to herself. Tillis then cast the deciding vote for Hegseth. Because he’s a goddamned coward.

Germany and France should plan on buying these fighters. France should spend its r&d money on its strategic assets like the new nuclear aircraft carrier and expanding its nuclear arsenal. Germany should focus on air defense both short and long range and armor vehicles Each a piece of the puzzle

I don't know what it looks like but there needs to be some mechanism to hold outlets responsible for knowingly lying to the public. Something akin to slander. Maybe the public should be able to sue for them lying about this guy even though the guy doesn't think he was harmed?

Because of decisions of people who put trump in office, considering trump said he would do this* You don't blame the leapord for being a leapord. You remove the dangerous animal from the community and the blame lies with those that chose to give the leopard free reign.

It’s confusing that @theatlantic.com described this man as a “a lifelong Democrat who had voted for Trump for the first time in 2024” who when these are some of his very easily findable FB posts:

I get the impression the conservative justices see the tide turning and are now focused on damage control and weathering the coming democratic majority storm. If the democratic base has anything to do with it they'll be bringing an umbrella to a tornado

It seems like this guy has been a trumpet for the whole ride and is now just shaken that he saw the consequences of his votes up close. Country would be a better place if more trump voters were confronted with the consequences of their choices bsky.app/profile/milo...

There needs to be a real accounting on both sides of the pond, and beyond. With real consequences. A side benefit would be the vast wealth recovered, by the state, from these criminals would go a long way to fixing structural issues in society

way, the only thing that can counter a computer super intelligence is a different computer super intelligence. And I'm not suggesting we try and make one to control. Just that a community of these things would be more likely to police each other rather than hoping the only one isn't psychotic.

The only point of reference I have for this kind of thing is AI books I've read. I think, based on the various hypothetical paths things could take, once AGI really does come into being the most important factor is that there be many of them so that no single entity can act unopposed. Put another

Earlier this week, I agreed to interviews with two USA Today journalists. They wrote fantastic articles about the Cornell case that I'm proud to have been a part of. What I did not know is that their employer considers interviews to proprietary and opens up recordings to be used by any journalist.

I mean.... This is a better outcome than what would be expected in times past. In the 20s and earlier women generally wouldn't be admitted to the university. / In the 40s through 60s everyone would blame the woman for being at a party In the 70s through 2000s everyone would say she was lying Etc

In NY campus police at many universities are real police and other departments will generally refuse to talk to you since it occured within the jurisdiction of a different department (the state police chapter / department of that university).
