I understand the intent behind stars for everyone, but I think an alternative approach that doesn't put people in dishonest positions is better. I personally prefer 1-2 stars for the session instead

A table culture that fosters disingenuous compliments invites dishonesty and insincerity to the table, which may bleed into other aspects of play. This erosion of trust makes the rest of play riskier and less fun. How can we trust the table to hold each other in conflict in this kind of culture?

Couldn't agree more. Making stars for every player mandatory creates a subtle pressure for everyone to HAVE to say something good, even if they don't have something good to say and that doesn't actually help anyone and potentially harms the table experience.
