Originally seen at bsky.app/profile/mrlovenstein.bsky.… but I don't know if y'all do BlueSky at all. But it sure seems apropos to this space.

A 4-panel strip.

Purple, seated being says "Nothing interests me."

A standing, pink being puts its hand on the seated being's shoulder, and says "Surely there's something out there for you."

Behind them, the purple being sees a door marked "Expensive and time-consuming hobby."

The pink being jumps in front of the door, arms wide, blocking both access and view, and is sweating profusely. It says, "Not that."

Got even more of the #HamRadio things dug out of boxes & hooked up. Tried a POTA station on CW about 7x, but they had so many callers, I never made it to the top of the list. But I have reason to believe it works and gets out. I’ll try RBN later, probably.

Lots-o-boxes.

Center bottom, FTdx3k. On top of that, left, WinkKeyer WKmini. To the right of that, Versa Tuner II.
Atop the tuner, Mac Mini (Xubuntu), and a USB hub atop it.

Here's a question for you #HamRadio nerds. My day-job office is in my basement, & we've moved to someplace with much less FM Broadcast radio choices. What we do have, I can't RX cleanly down here below grade. What I WANT to do is put a yagi antenna for FM broadcast (already have one) ...(cont'd)

40 meters, 5 watts, 23' rain gutter, no ground rod, no counterpoise (aside from the coax shield coiled on the garage floor). SWR is anything from 3 to 8 depending on which band. That's why 100w radio is dialed all the way down to 5w. Quite frankly […] [Original post on mastodon.hams.social]

Now, if someone knows of a #MacOS app that can make the #Bluetooth built-in behave like it's a set of earbuds, and "pair" with the HT, I have a way I could route that audio to the desktop mixer. Or if you know of another 8-ish-channel desktop mixer that has a "I'm a bluetooth headset" channel […]

Here's an esoteric #HamRadio question... I have a #Yaesu FT5D HT here, & sometimes I'll monitor #AmericaLink or some other #YSF group. But at my desk, with music playing, it can be very hard to hear that tiny speaker. It has Bluetooth. I need a Bluetooth audio receiver that a. can connect to […]

On the one hand, it's a very long lot, front to back, which gives room for decent sized dipoles. On the other hand, the orientation of the lot is lousy for Europe. Yeah, it'll be a #DXCommander vertical again.

It's been a few months, but I finally have a rudimentary #HamRadio #HF station back. RX-only for now, because the sole "antenna" is the garage rain gutter. But for what it's worth, I was 99.5% RX-only in the months before the house move, anyway. This […] [Original post on mastodon.hams.social]
