The Court of Appeal judgement on Palestine Action is frankly bonkers. It says PA is not "a direct action civil disobedience protest group like the suffragettes operating transparently in the open." Right: the arson, bombings, slashings etc were all planned in open meetings in Parliament Square 🙄🧵

Oh the irony. “the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is .... the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; .... who constantly says: 'I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action'” Martin Luther King

If you suggest police officers shouldn’t kick people in the head, you’ll get the chief of the Met condemning you on national television. If you say the police are institutionally racist against whites and suggest people should riot, you’ll get invited onto a BBC couch to expand upon your theories.

I am once again wondering whether "no, the legitimate concerns racists don't have a point, fuck off, they're racist" might have been a better way of combating the far right.

In 1872, the Chicago Evening Post published an absolutely brutal editorial mocking people who objected to sharing public spaces with Black people. Still some dated language but a remarkable piece. “Hire a carriage and you can sit all alone by your own sweet self for $2 an hour.”
1872 article reading, in part: “AYou do not like, reader, to sit by the side of a well-behaved negro in a theatre's dress circle? Very well; take a box. If your antipathies are not worth $5 extra, they are not very important.
You do not like, fastidious madam, to sit by the side of "some offensive creature" in the car? Very well; hire a carriage, and you can sit all alone with your own sweet self for $2 an hour. But you cannot expect to charter and monopolize a Persian heaven on wheels for five cents, you know. You object, dear sir, to risk the chance of meeting… Fred. Douglass, Alexander Dumas, Minister Bassett, John Jones, or Jared Grey? Very well; you have an inalienable and God-given right to object. You can avoid these people by having your meals served in your room. Isn't your pet aversion worth a dollar to you? ... To insult people because of their color is bad enough; but it is mean and cowardly to make them pay the expenses of their own crucifixion. “. Likely by George Mclellan or his brother.

London mayor Sadiq Khan blocks £50m Met police deal with Palantir
Exclusive: Scotland Yard had been in talks to use Palantir’s AI technology to automate intelligence analysis A £50m Met police deal with the controversial US tech company Palantir has been blocked by the London mayor, Sadiq Khan, with City Hall citing a “clear and serious breach” of procurement rules. Scotland Yard had been in talks, revealed by the Guardian last month, to use Palantir’s AI technology to automate intelligence analysis in criminal investigations. But Khan intervened on Thursday to stop the flagship contract, which would have been Palantir’s largest yet in British policing. Continue reading...

Remember that this was the result Elon Musk wanted when he cancelled USAID. He's not some buffoon who didn't know what he was doing with DOGE (as I've seen some media suggest). He's a lifelong racist who hates black people, wanted to kill some, saw an opportunity to do so, and took it.

Two innocent Jewish men were stabbed by a mentally ill attacker—the government and media declared an antisemitic crisis! What they didn’t say: he’d stabbed a Muslim man an hour earlier. Facts buried. Tragedy politicised. How does that help the Jewish community? It doesn’t—it fuels division.
