There are 2 previous historical cases of countries destroying their science and universities, crippling them for decades: Lysenkoism in the USSR and Nazi Germany. The Trump administration will be the 3rd. It's not just budgets but research, institutions, expertise, and training the next generation.

Here's a key datapoint when considering the Trump administration's plan to fire 80,000 workers at the VA. The VA is **already** more administratively lean than the private healthcare sector, with 22.5% of its workforce in administration, vs. 29.3% in private sector.

And when we kill healthcare science, it's not just scientists and those that directly help the work happen that suffer. The long-term impacts of this will stifle discovery and innovation of new diagnostics, preventative interventions, treatments, and service delivery strategies. Everyone suffers.
