I’m grateful I don’t have to work evenings and weekends but today, I’ll join #ScholarSunday to honour my friend, Raul Pacheco Vega. In “Getting Under the Hood” (2014), Sarah Eddy and @kellyhogan.bsky.social show the connection between active learning and inclusive teaching. One of my fav papers.

"If you are a university, you may have to figure out, are we in fact doing things right? Have we in fact violated our own values, our own code, violated the law in some fashion? If not, and you're just being intimidated, well, you should be able to say, that's why we got this big endowment.
We'll stand up for what we believe in, and we'll pay our researchers for a while out of that
endowment, and we'll give up the extra wing or the fancy gymnasium - that we can delay that for a couple of years because academic
freedom might be a little more important." -

Please share!!! This is getting ridiculous—they just can’t accept a loss. Please help spread the word to North Carolina. The North Carolina Court of Appeals ruled in a 2-1 decision that over 60,000 votes cast in last year’s closely contested state Supreme Court race must be verified and recounted.

I love this time of year when students reflect on what they’ve learned (usually skills not content) and they give shout outs to peers and instructional team members (importance of community and representation). Informal polls might get you more of this than standard end of course evals. #AcademicSky

NYT giving us an incredible story and it turns into a math growth-mindset example at the end! Hee hee.
Her 8-Year-Old Drove Herself to Target and Became an Internet
Star
Tangie Wilson was sleeping when her daughter Zoe sneaked out of the house and drove to the store. The tale of how it all unfolded is as relatable as it is incredible.Well, the week after that, she was upset about going to school. She was like, "I'm worried because we're doing multiplication, and multiplication is hard." And I'm like, "Zoe, did you know how to drive a car before you drove the car the other day?" And she was like,
"No." And I was like, "OK, so just like that with multiplication, you don't know how to do it but you're going to learn." So that has encouraged her a lot as far as her schoolwork.

The phrase "collaborative grading," on the other hand, is both more accurate regarding the practices that are central to this model, and it also conveniently avoids the conundrum of multiple definitions. Although we do not know who actually coined this term, Lindsay Masland of Appalachian State University and Jayme Dyer from Durham Technical Community College are two leading thinkers who have argued for its adoption.
