1/2 For #FindsFriday this week, I'm sharing with you a photo of a Roman-era shroud for a young girl. It was featured in Manchester Museum's Golden Mummies of Egypt exhibition, and it's the subject of my next Artefacts in Focus article, dropping tomorrow. #Egyptology #AncientEgypt #MuseumPhotography
The middle section of the shroud. It's made of linen and covered in painted plaster, although the plaster is damaged in many places. The bulk of the shroud is taken up with a depiction of the girl herself, in typical Roman style. She has a gold necklace made of painted plaster.

It's been a bit chilly over the last in the UK, so for #FindsFriday, here's a rather gorgeous Roman Period knitted children's sock to help your toesies feel cosy. It was found in Oxyrhynchus in Egypt, and is now in the collection at Manchester Museum. 📷 © me #Egyptology #AncientEgypt
The sock is ankle height, and knitted in red, green and yellow stripes. It has a separate toe for the big toe so the sock can be worn with sandals.
