Good news: I've met the eligibility requirements for my permanent residency application! I can also apply for an open work permit! Bad news: It's $600 for the processing fee for my perm res app & $155 for the work permit. I hate asking for help but I've set a ko-fi goal: ko-fi.com/proxyglitchc...

macintosh plus / the album "floral shoppe" remains vektroid's most well known contribution to vaporwave but in my opinion the artistic peak of these is sacred tapestry. shader is just such a masterpiece of an album, in the mold of OPN or James Ferraro www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wwcx...

some honorable mentions include: -sim city, mostly 3000 and 4 -age of empires 2 -civs 2, 3, and 4. even test of time lmao all of these, like the nine above, are the sort of things that are my priors of what a successful game even is.

tried to do this so as to emphasize all parts of my life relatively evenly. several of these hit me as hard for the music as the game itself (thps series, the sims, GTA vice city, Wii Sports, BOTW, UFO 50)

but that curatorial impulse of bbc 1 (and also 1xtra and 6 somewhat) give the british charts such a different flavour than the uk. they embraced house immediately in the late 80s rather than being scared by its Blackness and gayness, for one

Keeble T. Bird @keebletbird.neocities.org · 27/09/2026
the case of this in the uk is really interesting: bbc had a lot of controversy for avoiding pop music intentionally in the 60s, to the point of losing a LOT of audience to pirate radio, so since then theyve been literally required to actually play what people want across a variety of stations

Keeble T. Bird @keebletbird.neocities.org · 27/09/2026
combine that with spotify's blatant payola (see below), and you end up with the corruption of radio, but without the common experience

Keeble T. Bird @keebletbird.neocities.org · 27/09/2026
the algorithmic piece here: music algorithims generally prioritize things it thinks you will like, which it defines via similarity to other artists/listeners like you. this....doesnt account for things youd like thatd catch you off guard, that you wouldnt think to look up, the way radio/mtv might

the lack of rap on the charts is reallly starting to be noticable now. the only rap hits that pop off are from legacy acts who got big pre-pandemic. there isnt a young class of new rappers, partially bc the people who would have led that died (pop smoke, mac miller, etc)

Keeble T. Bird @keebletbird.neocities.org · 27/09/2026
a good one, at that! wish the charts (fm radio mostly, though who gets put on spotify playlists plays into this a lot) would play stuff from it. even the olivia rodrigo album from this summer, which is pretty dang well done albiet not my thing, fell off way quicker than i thought it would

this has also been a weirdly anonymous, kinda down year for pop in general. a lot of hyped releases arrived with a shrug (charli xcx, phoebe bridgers, etc). the no. 2 song in the country is a blatant rip off of noah kahan's "stick season," a pop song from only 5 years ago, from a groupon heiress

yeah, like, if everyone is having their own custom "popular mix" made just for them it becomes basically impossible for us to live in a shared reality where even walking into a public place means you hear the number 1 song in the country thats breaking records

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Man from the Future (stylised in sentence case) is the sixteenth studio album by English synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys, set to be released on 9 October 2026 through the band's own label x2 and Parlophone. The band's first concept album follows the life of Alan Turing and his legacy and is a collaboration with Turing biographer Andrew Hodges.

Background and original performance

The duo originally wrote the songs with Hodges around 2012–2013, later performing it with the BBC Concert Orchestra at a BBC Prom in July 2014. They later decided to revise the piece to "give it more of an electronic emphasis", and Sven Helbig, the original orchestrator, suggested reworking his orchestrations in a more intimate arrangement for eight string players.[4] The band said about the album, "Our motive in creating this work was to make a musical memorial to Alan Turing who gave so much to his country and the world and was rewarded for it by being prosecuted for his sexuality".[5]

the funny thing is even if you decide to be generous and give obama's position here credence, the core problem remains that a ton of the most visible democrats - himself included! - will not take actually strong moral stances, even/especially against deeply unpopular policies, people, corps, etc

in the long run it's hard to make out the difference between behavior caused by a lack of skill and behavior caused by lack of incentive, since ceteris paribus you'd expect either over time to produce the other. but these changes are recent enough that we can probably sort out which is the culprit

I belabor the academic case not just because it's the one I know the most about but because of how strikingly *similar* it is to the incentive disruptions on social media. platforms count followers and engagement, which flattens across commentators' competencies, quality is hard to discern

Speaking of the academic case specifically, this is what I'd describe as the core of it. Given the education you need to participate the skill deficit explanation isn't quite as plausible - likelier that people have the skills but lack the incentive to use them bsky.app/profile/juli...

Something I think about constantly is how if you took just 46% of the land currently used to grow corn for ethanol—that is, flat, sunny land that is *currently, right now* being used for energy production—and converted it to solar farms, it would generate enough ⚡ to decarbonize the entire US grid.

So, imagine this- you're a newborn baby, and, you're still getting used to the world. You can't talk yet, you don't know what colors are, people are always picking you up-but at least mommy's there. Until, one day, you're playing with Mommy, and,
inexplicably, in the middle of playtime, in a flash, she's just. Gone. And just when you start to worry, yknow, think, maybe Mommy's gone for good, she reappears... and she says something you've never heard before. I'm Ira Glass, and this week on This American Life, we're digging into "Peekaboo," and where Mommy *actually* goes when she puts her hands up. The answer? Just might shock you.

Sometimes a drug trip is a profound experience where you realize that you’ve been carrying pain in your heart for years, that you can forgive yourself. Other times you come up with a concept called “gay money” (money that’s gay) and you text your friend “gay money” days later. Both are healing. ❤️‍🩹
