tried to do this so as to emphasize all parts of my life relatively evenly. several of these hit me as hard for the music as the game itself (thps series, the sims, GTA vice city, Wii Sports, BOTW, UFO 50)

combine that with spotify's blatant payola (see below), and you end up with the corruption of radio, but without the common experience

hmmm. this could either be really good or it could be gay Hamilton
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Man from the Future (stylised in sentence case) is the sixteenth studio album by English synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys, set to be released on 9 October 2026 through the band's own label x2 and Parlophone. The band's first concept album follows the life of Alan Turing and his legacy and is a collaboration with Turing biographer Andrew Hodges.

Background and original performance

The duo originally wrote the songs with Hodges around 2012–2013, later performing it with the BBC Concert Orchestra at a BBC Prom in July 2014. They later decided to revise the piece to "give it more of an electronic emphasis", and Sven Helbig, the original orchestrator, suggested reworking his orchestrations in a more intimate arrangement for eight string players.[4] The band said about the album, "Our motive in creating this work was to make a musical memorial to Alan Turing who gave so much to his country and the world and was rewarded for it by being prosecuted for his sexuality".[5]

this place needs to be seen to be believed. distinctly remember the point in my life when walking through here and it hit me "oh wait a minute this is conceptually bad"

i think of lawrence weiner's body of work, which seemed to look at the conceptual art of the late 60s and went "well, this works even better if the thing im thinking of doesnt actually exist and is just a description of what would be there"
slanted, painted words on a plain wall. it reads "inclined enough to roll""a translation from one language to another" painted on the side of a building, in just one language

personal theory: because most people have what lawrence kohlberg called "conventional morals", determined either by what is legal or what they think. this includes you and me, almost certainly, on many issues we dont think about. in places where ai use is stigmatized, issue is OFTEN taken imo

Even the regular x4, with no backlight or touchscreen, at 69 bucks has allowed me to read SO MUCH MORE just from it being internet free and physical button only. Apparently I’ve read for 42 hours on this thing this year—tons of books and magazines both!

Amusing ourselves to death is still such a great read. This was written about the telegraph’s lead to the then-current development of cable news, but one could say the same about here, and especially about TikTok/reels/shorts
Picture of a page of Neil postman’s “amusing ourselves to death. It reads “…merge it in a Niagara of similar opinions, and convert them into—what else?-another piece of news. Thus, we have here a great loop of impotence:
The news elicits from you a variety of opinions about which you can do nothing except to offer them as more news, about which you can do nothing.
Prior to the age of telegraphy, the information-action ratio was sufficiently close so that most people had a sense of being able to control some of the contingencies in their lives.
What people knew about had…” the page then ends

a bluesky post from 2024, from @smilingnodding. it reads " every new restaurant in every major city is either called Thistle + Thorn and thinks adding turmeric to brussel sprouts makes them worth $30 or is called Burger Bitch and has a neon sign in the window that says "im gonna fuck a hamburger"

This here is another kaweco I have; I think it’s like 25 euro? I forget the name. Not much money though and it was an impulse purchase from the stationary store but a great one. I love that it’s clear and feels good in the hand. Running purple ink in it rn :3

been connecting a lot with blood orange's lyricism again. this wasnt the context either of these songs were written in, but he said that he only writes songs about himself. so why not additionally interpret them for me, while knowing his own meaning is as true?
[Chorus: Dev Hynes & Debbie Harry]
Choosing what you live for
It's never what you make your life
How could you know if you're squandering your passion for another?
Do you ever think, boy?
Or does it just feel better alone?
Feeling the comfort of sadness in a new set of surroundings[Chorus: Tariq Al-Sabir, Daniel Caesar & Caroline Polachek]
Hard to let you go (Hard to let you go)
See you and I know why it's always grey (Oh)
Why it's always grey (Hard to let you go; and sing to me)
Hard to let you go (Ah)
Healthy as we pray (Ah) for a journey home (Home, oh)

Been thinking a lot about this quote from trans activist Janet Mock, which opens blood orange's song "Jewelry", as i continue to work on being the most unmasked version of myself
Janet Mock: So, like, my favorite images are the ones where someone who isn’t supposed to be there—who’s, like, in a space, a space where we were not ever welcomed in, we were not invited. Yet we walk in and we show all the way up. People try to put us down by saying, “She’s doing the most,” or, “He’s way too much.” But, like, why would we want to do the least?

Today I had the loaded jalapeño whopper jr combo unmodified. This came out to $8.23 for, frankly, some of the best fries in fast food rn with a significantly improved whopper experience relative to say 10-12 years ago. Vegetables tasted nice and fresh. All in all? 4.5/5 experience given money

Today i Learned: he's not saying "murder"
Genius annotation of a lyric of the song quoted below. The highlighted lyric is "Out in the street, they call it merther..." which is explained by genius dot com the following way:

"In these lines Kamoze compares the feeling of listening to this kind of music to what people in the streets vulgarly call “merther”

The term merther is a slang term of West Indian origins, often used in Jamaican patois, that denotes the sensations produced by smoking Marijuana while listening to dub reggae. The merging and distortion of sense impressions that occurs during the cannibonoid trance.
This word has been infamously mistaken for murder throughout the years of existence of this song." This analysis has 25 upvotes on the website

one of the real highlights of this con was having a retro emulation setup! i had my steam deck with me too but i never once pulled it out in favor of this lil rg 34xx sp. Being able to play some of kirby and tetris and even ufo 50 made the long lines so much better
an anbernic rg 34xxsp, which is an emulation handheld that looks and feels a lot like a gameboy advance sp, but with some extra controls. this system is shown running a port of the 2024 game UFO 50, scaled to 3:2 to meet the aspect ratio of the screen. The ufo 50 game being played is magic garden

What gender we feeling today, folks
The Pastoral Concert, a Titian painting from the early 1500s. The painting portrays three young people on a lawn, playing music together. Next to them, a standing woman is pouring water from a marble basin. The women are naked apart from their drapery, fallen to their legs; the two men are dressed in contemporary 16th century Venetian costume. In a vast, pastoral background, there is a shepherd and a landscape.

Comic strip of Calvin's Parents in Bed:
MOM: Are you still awake too?
DAD: Mm-hmm. I was thinking. It's funny...when I was a kid, I thought grown-ups never worried about anything. I trusted my parents to take care of everything, and it never occured to me that they might not know how.
DAD: I figured that once you grew up, you automatically knew what to do in any given scenario. I don't think I'd have been in such a hurry to reach adulthood if i'd known the whole thing was going to be ad-libbed.

whatever happened to "believe science"? updated vaccines are still important, despite what 47%(!) of democrats in my age cohort think
According to the pew research center, a majority of U.S. adults (59%) say they don’t want to get an updated COVID-19 vaccine. This is roughly identical to the share who said in October 2024 that they probably wouldn’t get the updated vaccine.

In the new survey, 26% of Americans say they do want an updated vaccine. Another 13% say they already got one as of late October 2025.

this, from astead herndon's profile of zohran mamdani, is a good thing to keep thinking of
“I think for a long time, it’s felt as if the safest place, especially as a Muslim in public life, was to be in the shadows,” Mamdani said. “And yet we see that that safety is all too tenuous. And to allow ourselves to be intimidated is to, in some ways, allow for the continuation of that very kind of politics.”

"Despite the many similarities between the products, Cream of Rice had an entirely separate origin and history to Cream of Wheat prior to 1983 when they were united under Nabisco.

The Cream of Rice Company, a Delaware corporation based in Chicago, was incorporated by T. C. Fredrich, O. C. Wilson, and Howard D. Stewart in October 1915.[8] Frank O. Balch, the company's secretary and treasurer, filed a trademark application for the "Cream of Rice" logo in December 1915. The trademark was registered in 1917. The company reported strong sales initially and market penetration of over half of retail stores in..." After that, the screenshot abruptly cuts off
