Happy Pi day!!!! Currently in the oven is a pumpkin pie. I am really impressed with my crimping. Then I used my veggie rotary cutter to slice my apples thin like potato chips. I just painted porgs to put on the pumpkin pie. #piday

I’m a total anosmatic. Zero sense of smell since I was like 6 years old. It also affects how I taste food. The way I eat is different. It’s a lot of texture based. It’s really frustrating when folks don’t acknowledge that.

I just watched the movie “Saturday Night” before I deleted my Netflix (it’s too expensive and why is it taking 2 years between seasons for Bridgerton?). The movie made me cry at the end, when they all pitch in and help to do the show. Like the crew guys help Leo I was in tears.

For people that don’t know me: my name is Kim. In order to deal with a high stress job I bake and cook. My therapist calls it sublimation? Instead of focusing on negatives, I focus on things I can control. I’m also a complete anosmatic meaning no sense of smell or taste. Here’s my goodies.

Wicked cupcakes. Cherry vanilla cupcakes with a rosè reduction buttercream flower for Glinda. Chocolate cupcakes with extra strong coffee glaze then I made a pistachio buttercream by soaking crushed pistachios in whipping cream for days, then straining that and adding crunchy pistachios to it. Topped with a chocolate pistachio bark for Elphaba

Nephew’s birthday cake. Top cake is a funfetti cake with caramel filling, semi baked with a Russian buttercream, 3.5 layers to create drama (Finn said it looked like a toilet before I added the stuff), covered in a chocolate ganache drip to look like mud. Toy dinosaurs to decorate. The sheet cake is a chocolate cake with cream cheese icing decorated very traditionally with a Star border, dinosaur sprinkles, “happy birthday Finn!” Written in blue icing and raptor dinosaur toys stuck in the icing.

Lemon blueberry cake with traditional American buttercream in white with pale blue icing made in a dotty cake border with scattered blueberries. “Fine… go!” Written in pale green icing. The sides were an attempt at watercolor with blue, green, and white.

Archie’s 1st birthday cake. Chocolate cake with chocolate filling. White icing, then green open Star borders on top and bottom with pale green, navy blue, yellow, and red polka dots on the side of the cake. The Very hungry caterpillar is on the top of the cake made with icing. It looks like the ice cream cone the caterpillar ate fell on top of the cake with the number 1 on the cone. “Archie” written in red frosting.

Dark Mexican beer, grapefruit soda, a tablespoon of veggie broth concentrate, smashed garlic, cumin, ancho chili, and clementine segments are boiling w/ chicken thighs currently. After the chicken is cooked, gonna reduce the liquid and use it as a bbq type sauce and broil the chicken.

One of my dear friends just noticed that my 5 year old nephew speaks exactly like me, that he probably unconsciously picked up how fast I speak and now speaks us as fast. And between that and his dad raising him to be a comic geek, my poor sister. He’s a fast talking little comic man.

I am trying to get better at meal prep for work. I work 12 hour nights and I do essentially a week on and a week off. This week: Shoyu braised chicken thighs; rice with browned butter/shoyu; roasted green beans. Cowboy caviar with cojita cheese and bell pepper dippers.

This is Lillibet, Lilly. She was named because she was so small and I wanted her to have a powerful name. This is Lilly in the very small box. Lill is no longer little. But it makes me smile at how much she has grown and what a snuggle cat she is. She has been in this box for hours.

Every year at this time I go for my union’s delegate assembly (#seiu) in Seattle. It’s great and fantastic. It’s a great weekend. I’m really bad at packing for trips, specifically weekend trips. I have lists, I have plans, but I live in pjs or scrubs so real clothes is always hard.
