I won't touch the things, for this (and other) reasons. Besides, I *like* coding! From the time I wrote something for þe olde CBM PET onwards, designing/writing software is invariably a fun* thing! And it probably keeps my brain working. * Excluding interacting with managers.

The most accurate California Prop 65 warning ever?

A still borrowed from a Lock Picking Lawyer video. On the right, there's a yellow kingpin lock; a short large tube with a smaller one with a lock in it attached. On the left, a hand holds the box it came in.

The label on the box carries what, at first glance, is the usual California Prop. 65 warning. However it reads: "The State of California contains one or more chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm"

Great episode, including quite a lot I wasn't aware of. Very indirectly had me thinking about the Battle of Drøbak Sound, another bit of Operation Weserübung which did not quite go as planned...

I can't begin to speculate. I'll just say that the idiosyncratic and sometimes bewildering electrical system in this 1944 rented semi, organically grown by a landlord unhindered by regulations and sense, is nothing compared to the Chaos House. I continue to be in awe.

CITIZENS OF THE UK! I need you to stop what you're doing and watch this 20 minute BBC documentary from 1972 about a new potato-based snack. One that's a bit like crisps but nobody is confident the public will embrace. I think 54 years later we know the answer to that question.

A small thing is even more cute when adjacent to a larger version of that thing. It's the rules.

An almost complete limestone dam across a canal. A 20-tonne excavator on the tow-path is piling up limestone; a 3-tonne excavator on the dam itself is then moving the stone to the further side of the dam.

This is part of the work being done for remediation of the Whitchurch breach on the Shropshire Union Canal.

Yeah, you see it here. I think it's made worse by anything particularly old (therefore interesting) being 405-line only; the broadcasts ended January 1985. So anyone not vaguely clued-up will think it's "useless" but "up-cycle" it as a drinks cabinet, pet bed, fish-tank... Grrr...

People are always trying to entice introverts out of their comfort zone and "let their hair down" a little. Why doesn't anyone ever ask extroverts to calm down and shut the fuck up for a few minutes?

OTOH, could it might mean fewer people replying to the first post in a thread, when they obviously haven't read any of the rest of the thread..? For me, it's a useful indicator that more awaits beyond the one post.
