All Bike lane projects are road safety projects: making it uncomfortable+ impossible to drive fast was the point. If you want to drive fast, do it on a highway, away from where people live, walk & cycle. People were driving at an avg speed that would kill a human and that's what will happen again.

All bike lane projects are road safety projects that improve safety for all road users: people driving, taking transit, cycling & pedestrians. They save lives. If the province believed removal would result in safer infrastructure, they wouldn't have legislated protection against that exact outcome

Bike lane projects are never about bike lanes. Framing them that way only serves a premeditated, convoluted agenda. Like many of the province's other disruptive actions - communication has been built on distraction, disinformation, and suppression of facts.

The guy who says he's *such* a great businessman and claims he is all about supporting business is making such a stupid business decision. While also putting protections in place so he's not responsible for the consequences *when* people die. May he never live this down.

You'd think a premier who claims to be all about business and jobs would know (and care) about this fact. Drivers don't linger and stop to shop, and it isn't about lack of parking.

“Someone with a 1-hr car commute needs to earn 40% more to be as happy as someone with a short walk to work. On the other hand, if someone shifts from a long commute to a walk, their happiness increases as much as if they’d fallen in love.” #CityMakingMath 50 reasons for more walkable streets.

Can't fully tell if this is serious based on your name. Space for moving people should be taken up by parked cars and these people would be able to find parking within 5min if they were willing to walk for 5min. No parking was removed in places where there wasn't sufficient parking available

Often overlooked fact. The bike lanes won't become car travel lanes. They'll be parked up 75% of the day.

Fact checked bike lane video from TVO Current counts, percentages, facts. It would be pretty easy for the provincial government to do something this simple... If they actually cared about facts. youtu.be/snpQPZpSGuY?...

A lot of it is due to drainage, snow clearing and emergency vehicles. They need to be properly spaced around catch basins to ensure the roads don't flood.

Yes there are speed limits and design interventions to enforce it. But there's also driver skill & common sense. The speed limit is the fastest legal speed - It doesn't mean you have to drive it all the time. Not around corners, or in bad weather, not when there are people walking on the street.

“What does Bradford believe in?” I’d ask. Winning, they’d reply. That and himself. You may (not) be surprised how many people who work at the City share this mindset. But they're not running for mayor.
030
Kanchan @kayehm.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Absolutely. I'm assuming this is Hamilton? They're probably fighting other battles that won't let them design the street properly.
120
Kanchan @kayehm.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
They aren't necessarily designed to be run at the speed limit especially if they are spaced far apart ... It means vehicles are likely travelling much faster than 40 between them. There are always signs and markings. They should never be a surprise. roads are 50kph, doesn't mean you do corners at 50

They don't damage cars if drivers travel at or below the speed limit. But yes, Canada has a greater culture of personal responsibility and not blaming systems, concrete and governments for our own mistakes.

Kanchan @kayehm.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Curious comment. The City doesn't get sued for distracted driving when the infrastructure is designed & built properly & in line with international guidelines. "I hit this inanimate object because I was speeding & not paying attention and am a horrible driver. Pay me for being incompetent." Nah.
130
Kanchan @kayehm.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Imagine how much longer it would take them if they hit a human being.
040
Kanchan @kayehm.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Gd forbid you add speed humps that actually meet the design guidelines to further slow drivers down because people still choose to speed down narrow residential streets. Those car wrecking humps on Dovercourt? You'll only bottom out once and never do it again. They should all be like that.

Dozens of ppl cycling every hour past me as I'm talking to residents (all car owners in a high rental, low car ownership n'hood) angry about losing "their" parking spot. One got angry when I pushed myself off his truck when he drove it at me. He got even angrier when I told him it was assault.

Kanchan @kayehm.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Reminds me of the Hallam residents who were SO angry about losing "their" street parking directly in front of their house (lots on the other side), despite having a driveway & double garage. They said it was too hard to turn their heads & reverse in/out of their driveway. You shouldn't be driving.

They'll do what CIMA did.
001
Kanchan @kayehm.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Of course I want to keep them. I helped fight for, design and build them. A reputable firm will know exactly how hard they are to remove and will not hide that. They will also push the Ford government to use the plans and designs the city engineers have already done and provided - to keep them.

That will not happen before the RFP is awarded. Who's job? What's your backup plan? 31 firms are pre-qualified. There are maybe 10 Ontario firms who do this type of work. Meaning American firms, who do not care about their rep in Toronto, are pre-qualified. Betting on a miracle is a wild plan.

Kanchan @kayehm.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
You do understand that someone WILL win this RFP?

Kanchan @kayehm.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
I've always appreciated the hard work that advocates do, especially helping bring attention to issues. It would be really easy to ask the staff who have had to deal with the province 1:1 how they want this to play out. I can guarantee that being forced to work w an inexperienced firm is not it.

The lowest bidder will likely win. But there is no fairness monitor. They haven't set a budget for the construction costs.

Someone WILL win it. 31 firms qualified If I was still staff, I'd want an ally on the inside, not someone I had to fight or educate about what is possible. A known firm will do their job & work with the city. Yes, the province may reject it. But that kills a lot of time. (CIMA proved this)
020
Kanchan @kayehm.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
I really don't think so. Having a known firm on this will be like having eyes (and an ally) on the inside.
100
Kanchan @kayehm.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
I still strongly disagree with this stance. A forward thinking, known firm will do their job properly. They will work with the city. I'm certain they will submit designs that align with best practices. CIMA proved that. If the prov rejects it, then they have to do this all again. That buys time.

Kanchan @kayehm.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Someone WILL win this RFP. We don't know how they'll decide, there is no fairness monitor. It will likely be the lowest bidder. Do we want a firm that is well regarded wrt cycling infra & will work with the city? Or do we want to scare everyone away? I'd much rather a known, good firm win it.

Or maybe even force him to read a book. Listen to a podcast, even. Just educate himself. But after watching several interviews - I'm quite certain he is incapable of even entertaining that he may be wrong, about anything.

A keystone of a safe, equitable city is that a woman travelling alone at night should have safe, affordable options to get around. Having to own my own bike (or even good bike lights) when there are hundreds of bikeshares available but it's too dark to use them or even walk safely is not equitable.

I'm sure a lot has changed. In my experience of getting shit done (which trumps anything one learns in school), this is what it takes to force groups to work together: Council or mayoral motion or direction. It wasn't this bad 5y ago, so it's fully under the watch of the current mayor & councillor

The Martin Goodman Trail belongs to the City, yes. But it's managed by at least 3 groups within the city: Parks, Transportation, Waterfront Toronto And lighting mostly belongs to Hydro 🫠 When did you last see parks lighting improved? Who could force all these groups to work together to fix this?

This was also my first nighttime ride on the MGT in many years. And it may be my last (at least on Bikeshare) unless the lighting is improved. It was so dangerous that I considered walking the bike. I barely reached 10km/h because any faster felt too unsafe Why isn't it better? >>>

The reason the 🚲 wait is so long is because every other leg stops for the cycling crossing. The button must be pushed to make it happen. Find another Lake Shore intersection where that happens. I did ask for improvements to the SB crossing as part of FIFA transportation improvements for this area

Little known fact: I have not ridden most of the infra I've helped design or build. I was too stressed and overwhelmed to ride in case I noticed things/mistakes that I had no capacity to fix. Things most people would never notice, but I did. Now I submit 311s & it's someone else's job to fix it 😜

I met a resident who lives across the street from the Parkside camera (RIP) & saw it happen multiple times. Saw the people & vehicles used. Had recordings. They didn't say anything to police because they "didn't want to be a narc" 🫠 There are def doorbell cameras that had plenty of evidence.

The Parks division has always been a mystery. At last week's Fastpitch game at Bellwoods we celebrated that we'll soon no longer need a special rule to manage one of the new 🌲 planted in the outfield, in planters - because it is dying. Trees, in planters, in the outfield of a Fastpitch diamond 🤷🏽‍♀️
