The 14 year old just played me all the music she’s been listening to lately…TLC, Hole, Blondie, No Doubt, The Smiths, MF Doom, Mariah bloody Carey and other random things. I’m wildly proud of the eclectic selection but what the hell?

Anyone in Pōneke recently installed a heat pump hot water system? Any recommendations? And would you be willing to share how much it cost? Ballpark? We need to get rid of our old gas and need to transition but no room for indoor cylinder.

If you need a fast paced, page turner I can recommend this #pukapuka. Aotearoa author, set in Sydney and a good thriller crime fiction. It would make a great series actually. Perfect for a wintry-like rainy day in Pōneke.

Today I have made chillI oil, harissa sauce, hummus, a lemon cake and stewed some tamarillos. It’s bringing back childhood memories of weekends with my Sitti (Lebanese grandma) preparing all the little bits for the week ahead.

Instead of endless articles on polls, I’d like the media to describe the future state based on announced policies of the L/R blocs. Once you aggregate all those things up, i imagine the pictures will be pretty clear and likely galvanise voters. Maybe I’m too idealistic.

Have just had a rare weekend home alone (with the cat) and taught myself how to crochet and watched Bridgerton season 4 (inanely watchable trash) to the wee small hours. I’m officially old.

Got the beanbag out so I could read in the sun. Nek minute! I’m now reading on the sofa. In the shade 🙄
A black cat sprawled out on a lime green beanbag in the sunshine. Then cat has one paw in the air, the beanbag is inside the house on a sodden floor next to floor to ceiling windows.

Home made flat bread, home made hummus and shop bought Palestinian za’atar. Perfect lunch today. Cooking myself back to full health. For those in Pōneke, if you haven‘t been to the Middle Eastern Market on the main road in Newtown, you’re missing out. All my Lebanese lady dreams coming true.
Flat bread cut into triangles, one in the foreground is smeared with hummus and za’atar sprinkled on top. There’s a sistema container with homemade hummus and a knife in it.
In the background is a cylinder plastic container of Palestinian thyme mixture (za’atar) from the Middle Eastern Market.

If you needed a sign to take some time off work to de-stress and get your groove back, this is your sign. From someone who consistently made sure all of her people were fine (both mahi and whānau), without asking herself the same question until it was a weeny bit too late and the burnout hit.

Made barley and lentil soup for lunch with a dollop of Greek yoghurt, and parsley from the garden. It was delicious, especially as I added quite a bit of Kashmiri chilli powder.

It’s so bloody cold in Welly this morning. I’m still in bed with a little snuggle buddy. The big snuggle buddy is here too but less happy with his photo being taken.
Black cat snuggled and sleeping on a white duvet on the bed. Photo is taken from my head while I’m in bed and she’s snuggled around my legs.

Refuses to sleep on the bed last night but decides my lap is the perfect place to go into deep sleep when I really need to be getting ready for work. I’m TUC, “trapped under cat”. May have to call in sick.

Tāmaki friends, how does one get from Auckland airport to the city these days? AT app tells me it’s 83 min with two changes - bus replacements 🤷‍♀️. Is it uber or taxi only? I can’t seem to find an airport bus service. I’ll be in Auckland for 6 hours in transit so it seems public transport is out.

I have had the most cup-filling week in a long time. Been on a senior leadership course facilitated by the NZ Navy. A whole bunch of life firsts for me but also what a luxury to have a week out to think about myself and my personal development. Inspired! Terrified! Invigorated!

Today has been Antarctic in Welly. Here’s a tale of two cats. A perfect loaf this morning as she conserves heat. And a void circle as she leeches my body heat tonight. I had to put the nana blanket on our bed as we haven’t changed to our winter duvet yet. Tomorrow‘s job. 🐱🇳🇿
A black cat in the perfect loaf formation on her cat hammock in the window. She looking up at the camera and wearing a pink collar and bell. The same black cat curled into a ball on a multicoloured crocheted blanket made by my actual nana.
The cat is so black and so tightly curled you can’t tell where her head or tail is.

It’s getting harder and harder to stay in NZ as things get more expensive and shitty. If I’m finding it hard, my heart goes out to those on low incomes, with insecure housing or with health conditions. Is it so radical to want people to be housed, fed and employed (for those than can and want work)?

At a bbq at my parents’ place, my anti-vaxxer uncle was trying to lecture me on the grave health effects of seed oils and GMOs while chain-smoking ciggies in the backyard. You can’t make this shit up. I said as long as he was smoking, I wasn’t prepared to listen to any of his “health advice”.

Te Matapihi - the new library - is so lovely. I didn‘t realise I was missing it until I stepped back inside his afternoon. This place was a haven when my kid was little as it was somewhere free to hang out, out of the house, especially on wintry days. So many happy hours in the kids’ section

I was being a good citizen and taking a survey on consumer goods and supermarkets in AoNZ. One of the questions was “would you be prepared to pay a bit extra for food knowing that the extra was going directly to the food producers?” I couldn’t click hell to the no fast enough.

The “Nicola Willis only has a BA in English lit“ crowd are feeding the same misogyny as “Nicky No Boats”. Cullen had an MA, Bill English an Honours degree in English lit, Robertson a BA and Joyce a BSc in zoology. These dudes educational background is same or even less suited but barely mentioned.

The Wellington moa point sewerage treatment malfunction is bad. How does it compare to dairy pollution? The plant serves about 180k people. They produce as much sewerage as about 13,000 dairy cattle. NZ has ~6m dairy cattle whose effluent goes mostly untreated onto land and into groundwater.

Got out of bed, threw headphones on and had a three-song silent disco around the kitchen while the rest of the whānau was sleeping. Top tier way to start the day. Highly recommend. Best tunes are 80s ones you can energetically lip synch along to, in my opinion.
