No sukkah for us this year. No use putting it up during a hurricane watch and a tropical storm warning. Chag Sukkot sameach! Enjoy the holiday safely and joyfully wherever you are and however you are able to celebrate.

I’m reposting this photo and text that I saw on Facebook from Epic Lava. I was so impressed with the painting and the thought of many pu’us filling the Kilauea crater. In August 1823, William Ellis counted 51 conical islands of vent structures. With more new vents opening, is this the future?
A photo of a painting from 1823 showing a crater with multiple small volcanic peaks, some spewing lava and some smoking. The top text says Kilauea Volcano Hawaii, Southwest of tbe volcano of Kilauea. The bottom says Hawaiian Islands territory of Hawaii

Tried to post a video of the crazy wind and rain but website tosses me out when I do. We stay dry inside. Stuck a towel under the door when water seeped in from being blasted by violent wet gusts. Lanai and carport have flooding, but indoors stays dry.

🧵 Three things new @laworldcon.bsky.social attendees & 1st-time Hugo Awards voters sometimes don’t know: 1) You don’t have to vote on every category for your votes to count. EX: Just because you don’t have time to read every Hugo-nominated book doesn’t mean you can’t vote on films & visual arts.

Episode 52 of Kilauea volcano, taken on Tuesday night about 10 pm. i just used my phone so not as great a photo, but it was impressive. I’ve heard it was 600 ft high. I’ve seen higher, but this was a very wide fountain.
