When talking with someone about their mental health, it’s important to use language they feel comfortable with. Ask, don't make assumptions. But don’t let fear of saying the wrong thing stop conversations. This guide will help you reflect on the language of mental health.

Extra cancer scans for women with dense breasts could save 700 lives a year – UK study
Adding scans to existing screening could catch harder-to-detect early-stage cases of disease, research shows Hundreds of lives could be saved every year with extra cancer checks for women with very dense breasts, a study suggests. Millions of women undergo breast screening, but regular mammograms can be less effective at spotting cancer in the 10% with very dense breasts, as the tissue can hide tumours on X-rays. This is because very dense breasts look whiter on scans, making it harder to detect early-stage disease, which also appears white. Continue reading...

Don’t just say DEI as if it’s a bad word. Spell it out. Say diversity, which is the lifeblood of American society & culture & innovation. Say equity, which a just society should pursue. Say inclusion, because decent people believe in increasing belonging, not isolating people who are different.

Events and conferences about care and support must be more inclusive, ensuring that people who draw on care and support themselves are heard. Involving people meaningfully in events can help to shape policies and practices that better reflect their experiences. (1/2)

Libraries feel like something about which we could very easily be saying, “Remember that place where you could borrow books, for FREE, and return them when you were finished?” And kids would say “What?? No way!” And yet there they still are, despite everything we’ve become, existing. Remarkable.
