Just came out of the new Resident Evil movie, and it was GREAT. Genuinely effective horror AND funny comedy with characters I enjoyed spending time with. Absolutely heading to the top of my favorite game adaptations, AND I can't wait to rewatch it.

If you're wondering why authors are getting so rabid here: First Anthropic stole our books. Then we got denied compensation because of US unjust copyright law and publishers failing to meet their contractual obligations. Then publishers and agents apparently claimed author shares. Now this.

Note from my notebook (2018). Still relevant.
THE TEN STAGES OF BOOK WRITING:

1. Faffing.
2. Terror.
3. More faffing.
4. ‘SHIT I AM SO BEHIND.’
5.  Zombie who can’t think about anything but book and dreams about book every night.
6. ‘This is awful.’
7.  ‘This might be OK, and that faffing might have been of benefit after all.’
8. ‘Oh my god I hope I don’t die before I’m done.’
9. ‘DONE! Never doing that again.’
10. Write another book.

“We’re something new at an old address, which felt appropriate for a horror magazine. There is also one separate resource on the site: our guide to crypto casinos…”
About the name

This site lives at a domain whose letters used to stand for something else. We kept the letters and gave them a new meaning: The Third Alley.

If you came here looking for the press that used to be at this address, or for the magazines it published, we’re sorry, that press has moved on and its titles are published elsewhere by other people. We’re not them, we’re not connected to them, and none of their work appears here.

We’re something new at an old address, which felt appropriate for a horror magazine. There is also one separate resource on the site: our guide to crypto casinos, comparing eight sites by payout speed, KYC policy and bonus terms. It sits outside The Third Alley’s fiction and editorial coverage, but if that’s what brought you here, you can find it there.

In the Renaissance people theorized, since the Aeneid is great, if you wrote poems made only of words & phrases from the Aeneid rearranged they should be great too, since a great source regurgitated should yield greatness. They produced NOTHING we still read. Thinking about that a lot lately.

From Note G, p. 722

It is desirable to guard against the possibility of exag-
gerated ideas that might arise as to the powers of the Ana-
lytical Engine. In considering any new subject, there is
frequently a tendency, first, to overrate what we find to be
already interesting or remarkable; and, secondly, by a sort
of natural reaction, to undervalue the true state of the case,
when we do discover that our notions have surpassed those
that were really tenable.

It is however pretty evident, on general principles, that in |
devising for mathematical truths a new form in which to |

I keep planning to actually properly write up an announcement about this, BUT: I turned my MFA capstone report into an exhibition book full of photos & process & feels about my apothecary research-filled "500 year time capsule" installation. And you can buy it: katherinecrighton.com/entering-an-...
A stack of slim 11x8.5 coffee table style books. The cover photo is of a cluttered, candle-lit, fabric-covered table against a stucco wall. The title reads "Entering an Apothecary's Dream: The Making of an Art & Sciences Installation", by Katherine Crighton.A slim 11x8.5 coffee table style book is open to a half-title page that reads "Entering an Apothecary's Dream" in small caps. A manicule points to the right beneath the text.A slim 11x8.5 coffee table style book is open to final section of the book, showing a two-page spread where the left page has a large close-up photograph of slip of printed paper in a jar (the paper reads "To Someone Far Away, Who I May Never Meet: Here is something I want you to know." The image bleeds over onto the right page, where in large, distressed type the section title reads "The 500-Year Time Capsule", around which smaller introductory text is set.A slim 11x8.5 coffee table style book is open to a pair of pages within the book, though the right-side is more visible. There are 5 photographs, two from the installation and three from the making of it, as well as text and captions. Of particular interest is a floorplan that has had lines and circles draw across it, as if tge design of the installation within the room was based on the secret canons of page layout. (Spoiler alert: IT WAS.)
