The Tiny Home village has been dismantled & removed, but the need for shelter hasn’t gone away. During last night’s windstorm a single tent was tucked beside the now-empty site. Someone spent the night in a structure that isn’t even windproof, steps away from where housing stood days ago.
A small tent is set up next to the empty lot where the tiny home village stood. The area is fenced off and empty.

Gross letter in the TC. Dude notifies vicpd when he sees unhoused folks "in doorways or elsewhere". What the actual fuck. Spoiler alert, Ian: unhoused folks aren't freezing outdoors because they haven't thought of moving on to a place with warm shelter & food instead of sleeping on the sidewalk.
It’s feeling safer in downtown Victoria
As a resident of downtown Victoria, I would also like to say how much positive change there has been since police officers and bylaw officers have been walking throughout the downtown core.

An example is Millie’s Lane, where there used to be many people hunched over doing drugs and, in some cases, yelling profanities; the lane now feels safe enough to walk through again.

On my daily walks, I still see some unhoused people in doorways or elsewhere. When I see an officer and give them the location, they immediately head there to have a conversation with the individual. They always move along. My only hope is that they can move on to a place where they have warm shelter and food. Thanks to Victoria police and city council for making a difference.

I would also like to thank the Clean Team for all the cleanup they do.

It feels safer.

Document, file formal complaints, and inform the media this is how to do it.
The witness then began videoing the incident.

“It continued to escalate when additional units arrived at that point, I observed a dog handler let a dog loose on this man after he’d been subdued,” the witness said.

“They had one handcuff on his wrist, and they had his hands clasped together at one point, holding his thumbs. Nonetheless, they allowed that dog to continue his bite. Also, there was a continuation of strikes on this individual, and he was screaming out in pain”

The video taken by the witness shows an officer punching a man who is lying face down on the ground in the back seven times while a police dog bites the man in the ankle.

VicPD wants another $11 million in 2026. That could pay for all the city's proposed cuts. Or for housing. Victoria councillors will be talking about the police budget on November 20th. Tell them you don't want 25 more police officers and $90 million spent on police!
VicPD wants a 14%, $11M budget increase. The city already spends a quarter of its funding on police.
VicPD has the third-most officers per capita in the country, but they’re demanding 25 more in 2026.
VicPD’s proposed 2026 budget increase could pay for:
All the proposed cuts to city services (and more),
Annual rent for 449 1-bedroom apartments, or
Literally anything other than policing mental health and poverty.

To oppose another massive annual increase in police spending, email councillors@victoria.ca or council@esquimalt.ca
